Pursuing medical careers like radiology is challenging even for those with high levels of commitment, discipline, and resilience. Many rely on the guidance and support from mentors whose experiences serve as the roadmap for new generations. Unfortunately, finding a mentor can be difficult in certain parts of the world or when physicians decide to live and practice medicine outside their country of origin.

Radiology remains a male-dominated specialty, with women facing unique challenges across both academic and private practice settings. Prior research has documented many of these obstacles, which we explored further through the perspectives of 25 female radiology attendings. They shared experiences on key issues such as gender bias, discrimination, sexual harassment, mentorship, pregnancy, and work-life balance.

As the landscape of equity, diversity, and inclusion continues to evolve in radiology, women in radiology societies are playing a pivotal role in networking, communitybuilding, and mentorship. In Canada, Canadian Radiology Women (CRW) has developed from a social media initiative to a community of supportive female and nonbinary radiologists, sharing resources and providing mentorship to colleagues and trainees. This editorial describes the evolution of CRW and the impact on the Canadian radiology community over the past seven years.

Gender diversity contributes to creativity and collective intelligence in the workplace. Women bring a unique perspective to the practice of medicine; however, there is a persistent underrepresentation of women in the field of radiology.
