Objective: To investigate the value of histopathological examination (HPE) and Xpert Mycobacterium tuberculosis bacilli/rifampicin (MTB/RIF) assay in diagnosis of cervical lymph node tuberculosis (LN TB) after coarse needle biopsy (CNB).

Methods: We retrospectively analyzed 612 samples obtained from October 2017 to August 2023 from patients suspected cervical LN TB with surgically pathological, microbial culture confirmed, and clinically confirmed cervical lymph node enlargement who received ultrasound-guided CNB assisted by contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) at our hospital. All specimens were assessed by HPE and the Xpert (MTB/RIF) assay.

Thyroid nodule and cervical lymph node biopsy is the main clinical method for evaluating the condition and determining the follow-up treatment plan. The literature on thyroid nodule puncture predominantly focuses on thyroid fine needle puncture, and there are limited systematic articles on coarse needle aspiration for thyroid-related diseases and needle biopsy of thyroid-related cervical lymph node diseases. However, this shortage of articles does not reflect the diagnostic value of coarse needle aspiration in thyroid biopsy and cervical lymph node-related diseases.

Praxis für Gefäßmedizin und Venenzentrum, Bad Wildbad, GERMANY.

Article Synopsis
  • Spontaneous arteriovenous fistulas (AVF) are very rare and often go undiagnosed unless specific risks or symptoms are present.* -
  • An 80-year-old woman experienced swelling and varicosis in her left leg while noticing a cooler right foot, which ultimately led to the discovery of an AVF between her common femoral artery and anterior saphenous vein.* -
  • Despite undergoing treatment for varicosis, the patient declined closure of the AVF; over a 4-year follow-up, she showed no significant complications related to it.*

Article Synopsis
  • Ultrasound-guided percutaneous interventions offer better accuracy compared to traditional methods, but challenges like needle visibility and alignment issues have been noted in past studies.
  • The paper introduces a new strategy that integrates deep learning with optical navigation to enhance needle visualization and improve positioning accuracy.
  • Experiments show that this approach greatly reduces tip localization errors and provides significant visual guidance for physicians during procedures.
