The incidence of gastroesophageal cancers is rising, driven, in part, by an increasing burden of risk factors of obesity and gastroesophageal reflux. Despite efforts to address these risk factors, and a growing interest in methods of population screening, the bulk of these tumours are unresectable at diagnosis. In this setting, effective systemic treatments are paramount to improve survival and quality of life.

Treatment for neuroendocrine neoplasms (NENs) is tailored to the tumor's site of origin, grade, and differentiation. NENs are categorized into two main types: well-differentiated neuroendocrine tumors (NETs), which tend to grow more slowly and are less aggressive, and poorly differentiated neuroendocrine carcinomas (NECs), which are highly aggressive and harder to treat. Treatment options for NETs range from somatostatin analogues and mTOR inhibitors to peptide receptor radionuclide therapy (PRRT) with Lutetium-177 dotatate.

Antimicrobial resistance is one of the major health threats of the modern world. Thus, new structural classes of antimicrobial compounds are needed in order to overcome existing resistance. Cystobactamids represent one such new compound class that inhibit the well-established target bacterial type II topoisomerases while exhibiting superior antibacterial and resistance-breaking properties.

Mycobacterium abscessus complex (MABSC) comprises a group of environmental microorganisms, which are a concerning cause of opportunistic respiratory infections in patients with cystic fibrosis or bronchiectasis. Only 45.6% of MABSC treatments are successful, and therefore this is a need to discover new antimicrobials that can treat these pathogens.
