Renal tubular epithelial cells (TECs) are vulnerable to mitochondrial dysregulation, which is an integral part of diabetic kidney disease (DKD). We found that CD36 knockout ameliorated mitochondrial dysfunction and diabetic kidney injury in mice, improved renal function, glomerular hypertrophy, tubular injury, tubulointerstitial fibrosis, and kidney cell apoptosis. Furthermore, CD36 knockout conferred protection against diabetes-induced mitochondrial dysfunction and restored renal tubular cells and mitochondrial morphology. CD36 knockout also restored mitochondrial fatty acid oxidation (FAO) and enhanced FAO-associated respiration in diabetic TECs. CD36 was found to alter cellular metabolic pathways in diabetic kidneys partly PDK4 the -AMPK axis inactivation. Because CD36 protects against DKD by improving mitochondrial function and restoring FAO, it can serve as a potential therapeutic target.

This study investigated the antihyperglycemic potential of a hydroalcoholic extract from Syzygium malaccense leaves (E-SM) and isolate phenolic compounds with antioxidant and cytotoxic activities through a bioguided assay. The aim was to explore the therapeutic properties of S. malaccense in managing hyperglycemia and oxidative stress-related conditions.

Aims: There is a potential association between oxidative stress and the development of diabetic kidney disease (DKD). The Oxidative Balance Score (OBS), derived from dietary and lifestyle factors, acts as a comprehensive marker of oxidative stress. Research examining the relationship between OBS and DKD is scarce.

Glimepiride (GLM) is one of the potential antidiabetic drugs used in clinics for a long time. It is currently used in combination with metformin along with other drugs, but has shown various complications in patients from long-term use. Thus, the hypothesis is to use a lower dose of GLM with a non-toxic class of flavonoid, naringin (NARN), for better therapy with minimal side-effects.

Previous studies have shown that diabetes is one of the risk factors for kidney stone formation. The Cardiometabolic Index (CMI) is a composite index used to assess an individual's cardiovascular health and metabolic status. CMI has been associated with several metabolic diseases.

The correlation between thyroid hormone (TH) sensitivity and microvascular complications of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) remains uncertain. This study aimed to explore the association between TH sensitivity and the risk of diabetic kidney disease (DKD), diabetic retinopathy (DR), and diabetic neuropathy (DNP) in euthyroid T2DM patients. This study included a total of 946 hospitalized T2DM patients and calculated their sensitivity to the TH index, and each patient completed screenings for DKD, DR, and DNP.
