Herein, the efficacy of WO-promoted CeO-SiO and CeO-ZrO mixed oxide catalysts in the solvent-free selective oxidation of benzyl alcohol to benzaldehyde using molecular oxygen as an oxidant is reported. We evaluated the effects of the oxidant and catalyst concentration, reaction duration, and temperature on the reaction with an aim to optimize the reaction conditions. The as-prepared CeO, CeO-ZrO, CeO-SiO, WO/CeO, WO/CeO-ZrO, and WO/CeO-SiO catalysts were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), N adsorption-desorption, Raman spectroscopy, temperature-programmed desorption of ammonia (TPD-NH), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). These characterisation results indicated that the WO/CeO-SiO catalyst possessed improved physicochemical (, structural, textural, and acidic) properties owing to the strong interactivity between WO and CeO-SiO. A higher number of Ce ions (/) were created with the WO/CeO-SiO catalyst than those with the other catalysts in this work, indicating the generation of a high number of oxygen vacancies. The WO/CeO-SiO catalyst exhibited a high conversion of benzyl alcohol (>99%) and a high selectivity (100%) toward benzaldehyde compared to the other promoted catalysts (, WO/CeO and WO/CeO-ZrO), which is attributed to the smaller particle size of the WO and CeO and their high specific surface area, more significant number of acidic sites, and superior number of oxygen vacancies. The WO/CeO-SiO catalyst could be quickly recovered and utilized at least five times without suffering any appreciable activity loss.

Titania (TiO) is one of promising photo catalysts for its high ability to resistant photo corrosion and environmental friendliness, but its photocatalytic activity is too low to be used in industry. To find an approach to solve this problem, graphene oxide (GO), tungsten trioxide (WO) and TiO composite with hollow mesoporous structure was prepared by a two-step spray drying method. The composite was used as raw material to constitute a membrane onto ITO glass to form a membrane photo-anode.

Selective catalytic reduction of nitrogen oxides (NO ) by ammonia (NH-SCR) over supported vanadium catalysts is a commercial technology for NO abatement in combustion exhaust. The addition of tungsten oxide (WO) significantly enhances the performance of supported vanadium catalysts (VO/TiO), but the mechanism underlying this enhancement remains controversial. In this study, we employed combined operando spectroscopy (DRIFTS-UV-vis-MS) to investigate the dynamic state of active sites (acid sites and redox sites) on VO-WO/TiO during the NH-SCR reaction.

Hydrogen spillover is an important process in catalytic hydrogenation reactions, facilitating H activation and modulating surface chemistry of reducible oxide catalysts. This study focuses on the unveiling of platinum-induced hydrogen spillover on monoclinic tungsten trioxide (γ-WO), employing ambient pressure X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, density functional theory calculations and microkinetic modeling to investigate the dynamic evolution of surface states at varied temperatures. At room temperature, hydrogen spillover results in the formation of W and hydrogen intermediates (hydroxyl species and adsorbed water), facilitated by Pt metal clusters.

The rapid growth in the global population has led to increased environmental pollution and energy demands, exacerbating the issue of environmental contamination. This contamination is significantly impacted by various types of pesticides found in water sources, which pose serious health risks to humans, animals, and aquatic ecosystems. In response, extensive research into water treatment technologies has been conducted, focusing on efficient methods to remove these pollutants, with advanced oxidation processes and the utilization of tungsten trioxide (WO) as a photocatalyst showing promising results.

A set of nCN/WO composites was synthesized through a simple thermal treatment for gold recovery from the simulated effluent of a non-cyanide-based plating bath. The obtained results exhibited that all nCN/WO composites demonstrated a higher photocatalytic activity for gold recovery than their pristine components due to the formation of nanocomposites which paved a convenient pathway for charge transfer. Among all synthesized composites, the 5.
