Bacteriophages are expected to be therapeutic agents against infectious diseases. are involved in dental plaque formation related to dental caries and periodontitis. In , lytic bacteriophages have been isolated previously, but the isolation of temperate bacteriophage has not been reported although their presence in the genome has been confirmed. Here, we report the isolation of temperate bacteriophage, φKSM96, from . φKSM96 has a circular DNA 39,820 bp long and reveals Siphoviridae morphology. φKSM96 shows a broad range of susceptibility against strains with different serotypes. By the addition of φKSM96, growth and biofilm formation were significantly inhibited. In cocultures of with other bacterial species, the proportion of significantly decreased in the presence of φKSM96. In summary, φKSM96 shows selective anti- activity. The isolation of temperate bacteriophage is important for future genetic manipulation to create more efficient bacteriophages.

East, South, and Southeast Asia (together referred to as Southeastern Asia hereafter) have been recognized as critical areas fuelling the global circulation of seasonal influenza. However, the seasonal influenza migration network within Southeastern Asia remains unclear, including how pandemic-related disruptions altered this network. We leveraged genetic, epidemiological, and airline travel data between 2007-2023 to characterise the dispersal patterns of influenza A/H3N2 and B/Victoria viruses both out of and within Southeastern Asia, including during perturbations by the 2009 A/H1N1 and COVID-19 pandemics.

The dengue virus (DENV) is a mosquito-borne flavivirus endemic to many tropical and subtropical regions. Over the past few decades, the global incidence of dengue has risen dramatically, with the virus now present in over 100 countries, putting nearly half of the world's population at risk. This increase is attributed to several factors, including urbanization, climate change, and global travel, which facilitate the spread of both the virus and its mosquito vectors.

Background: Understanding the diversity and distribution of fungal communities at a regional scale is important since fungi play a crucial role in ecosystem functioning. Our study used environmental metagenomics to determine fungal communities in mountainous forest soils in the central highlands of Mexico.
Methods: We used four different bioinformatic workflows to profile fungal assemblages, .

In this study, we identify and characterize a novel phage-inducible chromosomal island found in commensal Escherichia coli MP1. This novel element, EcCIMP1, is induced and mobilized by the temperate helper phage vB_EcoP_Kapi1. EcCIMP1 contributes to superinfection immunity against its helper phage, impacting bacterial competition outcomes.

Marine collagen is gaining more attraction than terrestrial collagen because it is free of zoonotic disease and religious constrain. In this study, we aimed to investigate and compare the physicochemical properties and functional characteristics of acid-soluble collagen (ASC-MF) and pepsin-soluble collagen (PSC-MF) extracted from scales of Megalonibea fusca. ASC-MF and PSC-MF were evaluated in terms of yield, collagen type, amino acid composition, thermal stability, microstructure, cytotoxicity, and other physicochemical parameters.
