Two tandem catalytic systems are described for the synthesis of novel 3,4-disubstituted maleimides using the same Ugi adducts as starting materials. 4-Aryl-3-pyrrolyl- and 4-aryl-3-indolyl-maleimides were successfully obtained a Pd(OAc)/PPh based protocol. In contrast, maleimide-fused pyrrolo and indolo[1,2-]quinolines were obtained in a complementary methodology using CuI/L-proline. These strategies involved a combination of benzylic amine oxidation, -amidation, intramolecular Knoevenagel condensation, and -arylation reactions. Computational investigations provide further insights into this reaction sequence.

Antithrombotic drugs are widely used to prevent thrombotic events in patients with cardiovascular diseases. However, they all carry varying degrees of bleeding risk. Currently, there are no approved reversal agents for antiplatelet medications, which limits their further clinical application and poses challenges in managing bleeding complications.

Although the Diels-Alder reaction (DA) has garnered significant attention due to its numerous advantages, its long reaction time is a drawback. Herein, we investigated the effects of polarity difference on DA using Layer-by-Layer (LbL) films comprising polycationic polyallylamine hydrochloride and polyanionic poly (styrenesulfonic acid-co-furfuryl methacrylate) [poly (SS--FMA)] as the reaction environment. First, furan composition in poly (SS--FMA) was adjusted to be 19 mol% to achieve good water solubility and layer deposition.

β-parvalbumin (β-PV) is the primary fish allergen responsible for most allergic reactions in individuals sensitive to fish. To ensure food safety, a sandwich-based magnetic immunoassay was developed using maleimide-functionalized magnetic beads (NH-MBs). Specific anti-β-PV antibodies were immobilized on these MBs, and a screen-printed carbon electrode was employed as the electrochemical transducer.

This study presents the development of thiol-maleimide/thiol-thiol double self-crosslinking hyaluronic acid-based (HA) hydrogels for use as dermal fillers. Hyaluronic acid with varying degrees of maleimide substitution (10%, 20%, and 30%) was synthesized and characterized, and HA hydrogels were fabricated using two molecular weights of four-arm polyethylene glycol (PEG10K/20K)-thiol as crosslinkers. The six resulting HA hydrogels demonstrated solid-like behavior with distinct physical and rheological properties.

Membrane proteins (MPs) are critical to cellular processes and serve as essential therapeutic targets. However, their isolation and characterization are often impeded by traditional detergent-based methods, which can compromise their native states, and retention of their native lipid environment. Amphiphilic polymers have emerged as effective alternatives, enabling the formation of nanoscale discs that preserve MPs' structural and functional integrity.
