Multiple exciton physics in semiconductor nanocrystals play an important role in optoelectronic devices. This work investigates radially alloyed CdZnSe/CdS nanocrystals with suppressed Auger recombination due to the spatial separation of carriers, which also underpins their performance in optical gain and scintillation experiments. Due to suppressed Auger recombination, the biexciton lifetime is greater than 10 ns, much longer than most nanocrystals. The samples show optical gain, amplified spontaneous emission, and lasing at thresholds <2 excitons per particle. They also show broad gain bandwidth (>500 meV) encompassing 4 amplified spontaneous emission bands. Similarly enabled by slowed multiple exciton relaxation, the samples display strong performance in scintillating films under X-ray illumination. The CdZnSe/CdS samples have fast radioluminescence rise (<80 ps) and decay times (<5 ns), light yields up to 6700 photons·MeV, and the demonstrated capacity for incorporation into large area films for scintillation imaging.

Regulating strategies for long persistent luminescence (LPL) are always in high demand. Herein, a series of coordination polymers (CPs) (SUST-Z1-Z4) are fabricated using 1,10-phenanthroline derivatives involving different substituents (─H, ─CH, ─Cl, and ─Br) as ligands, respectively. Crystallographic data demonstrate that these CPs adopt alternating arrangements of cadmium halide chains and π-conjugated ligands.

Multiple far-red light-adapted photosystem I (FR-PSI) reaction centers are recently found to work in oxygenic photosynthesis. They contain a small amount of a new type pigment chlorophyll (Chl ) in addition to the major pigment chlorophyll (Chl ). FR-PSI differs from the conventional PSIs in plants and cyanobacteria, which use only visible light absorbed by Chl , although the mechanism of FR-PSI is not fully clear yet.

Research on perovskite light-emitting diodes (PeLEDs) has primarily focused on modulating crystal growth to achieve smaller grain sizes and defect passivation using organic additives. However, challenges remain in controlling the intermolecular interactions between these organic additives and perovskite precursor ions for precise modulation of crystal growth. In this study, we synthesize two triphenylphosphine oxide (TPPO)-based multidentate additives: bidentate hexane-1,6-diyl-bis(oxy-4-triphenylphosphine oxide) (2-TPPO) and tetradentate pentaerythrityl-tetrakis(oxy-4-triphenylphosphine oxide) (4-TPPO).

The development of durable and highly efficient visible-light-driven photocatalysts is essential for the photocatalytic ozonation process towards degrading organic pollutants. This study presents CN-MA, a novel photocatalyst synthesized by grafting carbon nitride (CN) with single-atom Mn and 2-hydroxy-4,6-dimethylpyrimidine (HDMP) via one-step thermal polymerization. Experimental characterization and theoretical calculation results reveal that incorporating single-atom Mn and HDMP into CN alters the charge density distribution on the heptazine rings.

The power conversion efficiency (PCE) of organic solar cells (OSCs) devices has surpassed 19% owing to the blooming of fused-ring nonfullerene acceptors (NFAs), especially for acceptor-donor-acceptor (A-D-A) type NFAs. However, the structural effect of the angular/linear fusion mode and number of fused rings for A-D-A type NFAs on the photovoltaic performance in OSCs devices remains unclear. Herein, the A-D-A type NFAs (, , and ) have been selected to obtain the intrinsic role of structural design strategies including the angular/linear fusion mode and the number of fused rings.
