Mechanisms of Staphylococcus aureus Antibiotics Resistance Revealed by Adaptive Laboratory Evolution.

Curr Microbiol

January 2025

Shanghai Key Laboratory of Veterinary Biotechnology, School of Agriculture and Biology, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Shanghai, 200240, China.

Infection caused by drug-resistant Staphylococcus aureus is a serious public health and veterinary concern. Lack of a comprehensive understanding of the mechanisms underlying the emergence of drug-resistant strains, it makes S. aureus one of the most intractable pathogenic bacteria.

Arctic permafrost is undergoing rapid changes due to climate warming in high latitudes. Retrogressive thaw slumps (RTS) are one of the most abrupt and impactful thermal-denudation events that change Arctic landscapes and accelerate carbon feedbacks. Their spatial distribution remains poorly characterised due to time-intensive conventional mapping methods.

NEBULA101: an open dataset for the study of language aptitude in behaviour, brain structure and function.

Sci Data

January 2025

Brain and Language Lab, Department of Psychology, Faculty of Psychology and Education Science, University of Geneva, Geneva, Switzerland.

This paper introduces the "NEBULA101 - Neuro-behavioural Understanding of Language Aptitude" dataset, which comprises behavioural and brain imaging data from 101 healthy adults to examine individual differences in language and cognition. Human language, a multifaceted behaviour, varies significantly among individuals, at different processing levels. Recent advances in cognitive science have embraced an integrated approach, combining behavioural and brain studies to explore these differences comprehensively.

Benchmark of Density Functional Theory in the Prediction of C Chemical Shielding Anisotropies for Anisotropic Nuclear Magnetic Resonance-Based Structural Elucidation.

January 2025

Research Unit of Structural Chemistry & Computational Biophysics, Leibniz-Forschungsinstitut für Molekulare Pharmakologie, Berlin 13125, Germany.

Density functional theory (DFT) calculations have emerged as a powerful theoretical toolbox for interpreting and analyzing the experimental nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectra of chemical compounds. While DFT has been extensively used and benchmarked for isotropic NMR observables, the evaluation of the full chemical shielding tensor, which is necessary for interpreting residual chemical shift anisotropy (RCSA), has received much less attention, despite its recent applications in the structural elucidation of organic molecules. In this study, we present a comprehensive benchmark of carbon shielding anisotropies based on coupled cluster reference tensors taken from the NS372 benchmark data set.

Spatial mapping of the HCC landscape identifies unique intratumoral perivascular-immune neighborhoods.

Hepatol Commun

November 2024

Human Immunology Laboratory, School of Medical Sciences, Faculty of Medicine and Health, The University of Sydney, Camperdown, New South Wales, Australia.

Background: HCC develops in the context of chronic inflammation; however, the opposing roles the immune system plays in both the development and control of tumors are not fully understood. Mapping immune cell interactions across the distinct tissue regions could provide greater insight into the role individual immune populations have within tumors.

Methods: A 39-parameter imaging mass cytometry panel was optimized with markers targeting immune cells, stromal cells, endothelial cells, hepatocytes, and tumor cells.
