Zoonotic infections were investigated in a cross-sectional study on asymptomatic livestock slaughtered in abattoirs in the Eastern Cape. Antibodies against spp., , , and the coexposure were investigated in sera using serological tests. A total of 565 animals comprising of 280 cattle, 200 sheep, and 85 pigs were screened using RBT, iELISA, CFT, and AMOS-PCR. The Mast® Toxoreagent test and iELISA were used for the detection of and , respectively. The positivity based on at least two tests was 4.3% (12/280), 1.0% (2/200), and 0.0% (0/85) in cattle, sheep, and pigs, respectively. seropositivity of 37.90% (106/280), 1.50% (3/200), and 7.10% (6/85) was observed in cattle, sheep, and pigs, respectively. seropositivity of 26.40% (74/280), 15.00% (30/200), and 2.40% (2/85) was observed in cattle, sheep, and pigs, respectively. Coexposure was detected in cattle for positivity against and 40.54%, spp. and 1.35%, and spp. and 4.05%. Coexposure for spp., , and 4.05% was detected in cattle. Coexposure of spp. and 6.67% was detected in sheep. The AMOS-PCR identified in cattle and a mixed infection of and in sheep in 64.71% seropositive samples. To our knowledge, the coexposure of spp., , and in cattle has not been reported. Coexposure of spp. and in cattle and sheep is significant as it results in reproductive losses and constitutes an infectious risk to humans. The detection of antibodies against multiple zoonotic infections in livestock from abattoirs has implications for public health.

Bluetongue (BT) is a vector-borne viral disease of multiple domestic and wild ruminants across the globe. The VP7 protein of bluetongue virus (BTV) is the major immune-dominant structural protein that is conserved across the BTV serotypes and therefore, targeted for the development of immuno-diagnostics for BT. In this study, full-length recombinant VP7 protein (rVP7) of BTV-1 was expressed in Trochoplusia ni derived insect cells (Tn5) using codon-optimized synthetic gene construct through baculovirus expression system.

The major hurdle of xenotransplantation is the immune response triggered by human natural antibodies interacting with carbohydrate antigens on the transplanted animal organ. Specifically, terminal glycoprotein motifs such as galactose-α1,3-galactose (α-Gal) and N-glycolylneuraminic acid (Neu5Gc) are significant obstacles. Little is known about the abundance and compositions of asparagine-linked complex carbohydrates (N-glycans) carrying these motifs in mammalian organs.

Quantitative trait loci (QTL) are genomic regions that influence essential traits in livestock. Understanding QTL distribution and density across species' genomes is crucial for animal genetics research. This study explored the QTLome of cattle, pigs, sheep, and chickens by analyzing QTL distribution and evaluating the correlation between QTL, gene density, and chromosome size with the aim to identify QTL-enriched genomic regions.

Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV) is regarded as an emerging and reemerging pathogen that is a primary cause of viral encephalitis in humans. However, there is a scarcity of research on the prevalence of JEV genotypes across the different mosquito species in Shanghai. In this study, the diversity of mosquito species and prevalence of JEV in pig and sheep farms in Shanghai were surveyed in 2022.

Rationale And Objective: The visualization of soft tissues, like the meniscus, through X-ray micro-computed tomography (micro-CT), requires the use of contrast agents (CAs). While other studies have investigated CA diffusion in fibrocartilagineous tissues, this work aimed to optimize iodine staining protocols for meniscal tissue that improve their visualization by micro-CT. Specific objectives included evaluating the diffusion of CAs within meniscal samples over time, assessing volume changes due to staining, and identifying the iodine ions absorbed by the tissue.
