Determining the correct power and orientation of prism to be prescribed for patients with symptomatic, oblique-angle strabismus can be challenging and confusing, prone more to clinician gestalt than science or methodology. The author shares a simplified, approach not previously described in the scientific literature that utilizes commercially available equipment and freely available on-line prism calculators for choosing the correct Press-On™ prism power, positioning the prism correctly on the spectacle lens, and ultimately determining the correct prism prescription to be incorporated into the patient's spectacles.

Background: Postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) after orthognathic surgery remains one of the most common side effects despite the use of several medications.

Purpose: The study aimed to compare the frequencies of PONV between a combination of metoclopramide with granisetron and granisetron alone.

Study Design, Setting, Sample: A randomized double-blind clinical trial was conducted in 66 consecutive patients who underwent orthognathic surgery at the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Bezmialem Vakif University.

Background: Young adults (YAs) are underrepresented in behavioral health and weight loss interventions and express interest in flexible, highly tailored programs. Mobile interventions are a lower-burden, scalable approach to providing behavioral support. Just-in-time-adaptive interventions (JITAI) promise to deliver the "right" support at the "right" time using real-time data from smartphones and sensors.

The rapid and reliable diagnosis of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is essential for preventing the spread of MRSA infections and guiding therapeutic strategies. However, there is still a huge challenge in further simplifying MRSA detection procedures and improving detection selectivity to reduce false-positive results. In this study, we developed a derivative CRISPR-associated protein 9/CRISPR-derived RNA Linked Immunological Assay (dCLISA) for the sensitive and specific detection of MRSA.

Shoulder abscesses, commonly resulting from bacterial infections, can occasionally present with atypical etiologies and delayed onset. We report a rare case of a massive polymicrobial shoulder abscess developing two decades after an insect bite, emphasizing its clinical presentation, diagnostic approach, and surgical management. A 65-year-old female presented with severe, progressively worsening right shoulder pain, a 20 cm swelling, and purulent discharge persisting for 15 days.

Grocery Shopping Under Simplified Marginal Value Theorem Predictions.

Hum Nat

January 2025

Institute of Psychology, Faculty of Life Sciences / Fakultät für Lebenswissenschaften, Technische Universität Braunschweig, Braunschweig, Germany.

This study examined whether supermarkets can be considered patches in the marginal value theorem (MVT) sense despite their particular features and whether they are models of human food foraging in resource-dense conditions. On the basis of the MVT, the quantitative relationship between gains in the Euro and patch residence time was modeled as an exponential growth function toward an upper asymptote, allowing the choice of an optimal strategy under diminishing returns. N = 61 participants were interviewed about their current shopping trip and contextual variables at a German supermarket and provided data to estimate relevant model parameters.
