Due to the use of vaccines, infections caused by are now rare. Here we describe a case of bacteremia complicated with pneumonia caused by in a 69-year-old male patient. The patient presented at the emergency department with a 2 days history of fever of unknown origin. Subsequent examinations revealed pneumonia and bacteremia. Non-toxigenic strains were isolated from blood and sputum. The patient had antimicrobial therapy with good improvement. We highlight the important role of in causing bacteremia and pneumonia, and its accurate and timely diagnosis is needed to avoid poor visual outcomes.

Objectives: The FOSFO-MIC study assessed the clinical and microbiological effectiveness, and safety of intravenous fosfomycin in treating complicated urinary tract infections (cUTIs) caused by Escherichia coli, in comparison with other intravenous antimicrobials.

Methods: A prospective, multinational matched-cohorts study involving adults with community-acquired cUTIs and receiving targeted therapy with intravenous fosfomycin or other first-line drugs (beta-lactams or fluoroquinolones) was conducted from November 2019 to May 2023 in 10 centres from Spain, Italy, and Türkiye. A Rare Case of Lemierre's Syndrome Caused by Streptococcus pyogenes.

Internal Medicine Department, Unidade Local de Saúde Entre Douro e Vouga, Santa Maria da Feira, PRT.

Lemierre's syndrome (LS) is a rare condition characterized by septic thrombophlebitis of the internal jugular vein (IJV). Typically, the primary infection originates in the oropharynx, progressing to the lateral pharyngeal space, IJV, and potentially leading to bacteremia. Through septic embolization, these patients can develop severe complications, underscoring the importance of early diagnosis.

Introduction: Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a common complication of acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) and multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS) in patients receiving extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) support, leading to requirement of continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) in 70% of ECMO patients. Parallel arrangement of CRRT and ECMO circuits is common in adult patients. However, CRRT may also be integrated directly into the ECMO circuit.

Objectives: Nontuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) are increasingly recognized opportunistic pathogens found ubiquitously in the environment. The presence of multiple NTM species at the site of disease complicates diagnosis and treatment.

Case And Management: A 40-year-old patient who tested positive for HIV, with an absolute clusters of differentiation 4+ T-cell count of 3 cells/µl and cryptococcaemia, presented with hemoptysis, productive cough, and weight loss.
