The topology of amorphous materials can be affected by mechanical forces during compression or milling, which can induce material densification. Here, we show that densified amorphous silica (SiO) fabricated by cold compression of siliceous zeolite (SZ) is permanently densified, unlike densified glassy SiO (GS) fabricated by cold compression although the X-ray diffraction data and density of the former are identical to those of the latter. Moreover, the topology of the densified amorphous SiO fabricated from SZ retains that of crystalline SZ, whereas the densified GS relaxes to pristine GS after thermal annealing. These results indicate that it is possible to design new functional amorphous materials by tuning the topology of the initial zeolitic crystalline phases.

In this study, a simulation of the elementary chemical reactions during SiO film growth in a hot filament chemical vapor deposition (HFCVD) reactor was carried out using a 2D model. For the 2D simulation, the continuity, momentum, heat, and diffusion equations were solved numerically by the software COMSOL Multiphysics based on the finite element method. The model allowed for the simulation of the key parameters of the HFCVD reactor.
β-CaSiO based glass-ceramics are among the most reliable materials for electronic packaging. However, developing a CaSiO glass-ceramic substrate with both high strength (>230 MPa) and low dielectric constant (<5) remains challenging due to its polycrystalline nature. The present work has succeeded in synthesizing single-crystalline β-CaSiO for a high-performance glass-ceramic substrate.
Unlabelled: Time-resolved cryo-EM (TRCEM) makes it possible to provide structural and kinetic information on a reaction of biomolecules before the equilibrium is reached. Several TRCEM methods have been developed in the past to obtain key insights into the mechanism of action of molecules and molecular machines on the time scale of tens to hundreds of milliseconds, which is unattainable by the normal blotting method. Here we present our TRCEM setup utilizing a polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS)-based microfluidics chip assembly, comprising three components: a PDMS-based, internally SiO -coated micromixer, a glass-capillary microreactor, and a PDMS-based microsprayer for depositing the reaction product onto the EM grid.
A new thin film was fabricated using FeO@SiO-polyoxometalate (POM) as the coating and it was coupled with a HPLC-UV to develop a method for the selective determination of ibuprofen, paracetamol and diclofenac (as the model analytes) from human plasma and urine samples. The prepared magnetic POM was coated on the pores and surface of cotton yarn to prepare the extracting device. The prepared sorbent was characterized by several techniques including: FT-IR, XRD, BET, SEM, and VSM analysis.
In this study, smart films of EFS, EFS-SiO and EFS-SiO-CRE were successfully developed by using Euryale ferox starch (EFS), nano-SiO and Chinese rose extract (CRE). The Chinese rose flower had a high content of anthocyanins (1.73 mg/g) and CRE exhibited different colors in varying pH buffers (2-13).
