Copper matrix composites with zirconium diboride (ZrB) were synthesised by ball milling and consolidated by Spark Plasma Sintering (SPS). Characterisations of the ball-milled composite powders were performed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction, and measurement of the particle size distribution. The effect of the sintering temperature (1123 K, 1173 K, and 1223 K) and pressure (20 MPa and 35 MPa) on the density, porosity, and Young's modulus was investigated. The relationship between the change of Orb content and physical, mechanical, and electrical properties was studied. Experimental data showed that the properties of Cu-Orb composites depended significantly on the SPS sintering conditions. The optimal sintering temperature was 1223 K with a pressure of 35 MPa. Composites exhibited a high degree of consolidation. For these materials, the apparent density was in the range of 93-97%. The results showed that the higher content of Orb in the copper matrix was responsible for the improvement in Young's modulus and hardness with the reduction of the conductivity of sintered composites. The results showed that Young's modulus and the hardness of the Cu 20% Orb composites were the highest, and were 165 GPa and 174 HV0.3, respectively. These composites had the lowest relative electrical conductivity of 17%.

Single-Crystal Elasticity of α-Hydroquinone-An Analogue for Organic Planetary Materials.

In this study, we measured the single-crystal elasticity of α-hydroquinone at ambient conditions using Brillouin spectroscopy to assess the feasibility of this technique for studying the mechanical properties of organic ices in the outer solar system. In this study, α-hydroquinone serves as an ambient temperature analogue for low-temperature organic ices on Titan and other solar system bodies. We found that a satisfactory Brillouin spectrum can be obtained in less than 5 min of experimental time with negligible damage to the sample.

Simulation of a liquid drop on a soft substrate.

Department of Fundamental Physics, Faculty of Physics, Alzahra University, Tehran, 1993891167, Iran.

A liquid drop resting on a soft substrate is numerically simulated as an energy minimization problem. The elastic substrate is modeled as a cubic lattice of mass-springs, to which an energy term controlling the change of volume is associated. The interfacial energy between three phases of solid, liquid, and vapor is also introduced.

The objective of this research is to develop a natural macromolecules-based smart double-layer film using carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) film containing pomegranate peel anthocyanins (PPA) and cellulose acetate nanofibers (CANFs) with Artemisia sieberi Besser essential oil-loaded nanostructured lipid carriers (ABNLCs). Based on the performance as a color indicator, and other studied properties, the CMC/PPA 8 % film was selected as the optimized film. The double-layer film was constructed by electrospinning the CANFs containing ABNLCs on the optimized CMC film.

Some properties and applications of the tabletability equation.

A recently derived tabletability equation mathematically describes tablet tensile strength as a function of compaction pressure. In this work, further analysis of the tabletability equation reveals that the normalized slope at the inflection point correlates well with powder plasticity, indicating its potential use as a powder plasticity parameter. Additionally, we explore applications of the tabletability equation in quantifying errors caused by a tensile strength measurement method that disregards out-of-die elastic recovery for assessing tabletability.

Surgeons frequently use allograft bone due to its osteoconductive, osteoinductive, and osteogenic properties. Preservation processes are employed to clean the allograft, improve its conservation, and ensure its sterilization. Many current processes use the properties of supercritical CO to remove bone marrow.
