In chloroform solution, the reaction of bis(tert-butylamino)dimethylsilane ((BuNH)SiMe) and an α-amino acid (α-amino isobutyric acid, ; D-phenylglycine, ; L-valine, ) in the presence of -methylimidazole (NMI) gave rise to the formation of the pentacoordinate silicon complexes , and , respectively. Therein, the amino acid building block was a di-anionic bidentate chelator at the silicon atom. In solution, the complexes were involved in rapid coordination-dissociation equilibria between the pentacoordinate Si complex (e.g., ) and its constituents NMI and a five-membered silaheterocycle (e.g., ), as shown by Si NMR spectroscopy. The energetics of the Lewis acid-base adduct formation and the competing solvation of the NMI molecule by chloroform were assessed with the aid of computational methods. In CDCl solution, deuteration of the silaheterocycle NH group proceeded rapidly, with more than 50% conversion within two days. Upon cooling to -44 °C, the chloroform solvates of the adducts and crystallized from their parent solutions and allowed for their single-crystal X-ray diffraction analyses. In both cases, the Si atom was situated in a distorted trigonal bipyramidal coordination sphere with equatorial Si-C bonds and an equatorial Si-N bond (the one of the silaheterocycle). The axial positions were occupied by a carboxylate O atom of the silaheterocycle and the NMI ligand's donor--atom.

Rare earth elements (REEs) are the "fuel" for high-tech industry, yet their selective recovery from complex waste matrices is challenging. Herein, we designed a 2D multilayered MXene TiCT adsorbent for selective extraction of REEs in a broad pH range. By establishing strong Lewis acid-base interactions, extraction capacities of TiCT to Eu(III) and Ho(III) reached 892.

Poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) has been widely studied as an electrolyte owing to its excellent lithium compatibility and good film-forming properties. However, its electrochemical performance at room temperature remains a significant challenge due to its low ionic conductivity, narrow electrochemical window, and continuous decomposition. Herein, we prepare a multifunctional polar polymer to optimize PEO's electrochemical properties and cycling stability.

To effectively mitigate global eutrophication in lakes, regulating sedimentary phosphorus release remains a primary strategy. Enhancing the adsorption and stabilization performance of passivating agents is integral to addressing endogenous phosphorus pollution in aquatic systems. This study presents a novel aerogel with a high specific surface area (663.

Undesirable loss of open-circuit voltage and current of metal halide perovskite (MHP) solar cells are closely associated with defects, so theoretical calculations have been often performed to scrutinize the nature of defects in bulk of MHPs. Yet, exploring the properties of defects at surfaces of MHPs is severely lacking given the complexity of the surface defects with high concentrations. In this study, IPb (PbI) antisite defects, namely one Pb (I) site being occupied by one I (Pb) atom at the surfaces of the FAPbI3 (FA = CH(NH2)2) material, are found to create electron (hole) traps when the surfaces with IPb (PbI) antisite defects are negatively (positively) charged.

Perovskite nanocrystals (NCs) with their excellent optical and semiconductor properties have emerged as primary candidates for optoelectronic applications. While extensive research has been conducted on the 3D perovskite phase, the zero-dimensional (0D) form of this promising material in the NC format remains elusive. In this paper, a new synthesis strategy is proposed.
