Endoscopic Ultrasound-Guided Pancreatic Tissue Sampling: Lesion Assessment, Needles, and Techniques.

Medicina (Kaunas)

December 2024

Department of Medicine, Diagnostic and Interventional Endoscopy of the Pancreas, The Pancreas Institute, University Hospital of Verona, 37134 Verona, Italy.

Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS)-guided tissue sampling includes the techniques of fine needle aspiration (FNA) and fine needle biopsy (FNB), and both procedures have revolutionized specimen collection from the gastrointestinal tract, especially from remote/inaccessible organs. EUS-FNB has replaced FNA as the procedure of choice for tissue acquisition in solid pancreatic lesions (SPLs) across various society guidelines. FNB specimens provide a larger histological tissue core (preserving tissue architecture) with fewer needle passes, and this is extremely relevant in today's era of precision and personalized molecular medicine.

Temperature is a critical factor affecting the matric suction of unsaturated soils. This study employed a simple and time-saving method to investigate the influences of temperature and moisture content on the temperature dependence of matric suction in loess and sand soils. Based on experimental data, the fitting performance of three data-fitting models-Brooks-Corey, van Genuchten, and Fredlund-Xing -was evaluated at temperatures above 0 °C.

Bioinspired surface structures for added shear stabilization in suction discs.

Sci Rep

January 2025

John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, Harvard University, Boston, MA, 02134, USA.

Many aquatic organisms utilize suction-based organs to adhere to diverse substrates in unpredictable environments. For multiple fish species, these adhesive discs include a softer disc margin consisting of surface structures called papillae, which stabilize and seal on variable substrates. The size, arrangement, and density of these papillae are quite diverse among different species, generating complex disc patterns produced by these structures.

Ultrasonography-guided aspiration and sclerotherapy for simple renal cysts in children: a comparative study with laparoscopic deroofing and optimization of therapeutic approaches.

Pediatr Surg Int

January 2025

National Clinical Research Center for Child Health and Disorders, Ministry of Education Key Laboratory of Child Development and Disorders, Chongqing Key Laboratory of Structural Birth Defect and Reconstruction, Department of Urology Children's Hospital of Chongqing Medical University, 136 Zhongshan Road, Chongqing, 400014, China.

Objective: To compare the clinical outcomes of ultrasonography-guided aspiration and sclerotherapy and laparoscopic deroofing for the treatment of simple renal cysts in children, providing evidence for clinical decision-making in the management of pediatric renal cysts.

Methods: A total of 49 patients with simple renal cysts were divided into two groups based on the treatment method: 29 patients (group 1) underwent laparoscopic deroofing, 20 patients (group 2) underwent ultrasonography-guided aspiration and sclerotherapy. The clinical efficacy differences between the two groups were compared.

Study on the foam production characteristics of air self-suction foam generator by jet.

Sci Rep

January 2025

Key Laboratory of Gas and Fire Control for Mines, Ministry of Education, Xuzhou, 221116, China.

Confined space fires could easily cause serious casualties and property damage, and foam is an effective means of preventing confined space fires. The existing foam generator does not have both momentum and foam expansion rate (FER) and is poorly suited to confined spaces. In order to develop a foam generator suitable for confined space fire protection, an in-depth analysis of the physical foaming characteristics of self-suction foam is required, and the structure of the foam generator is optimized accordingly.
