Background: CHRFAM7A is a human-restricted gene associated with neuropsychiatric and neurodegenerative disorders. The translated CHRFAM7A protein incorporates into the α7 nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (α7nAChR) leading to a hypomorphic receptor. Mechanistic insight from isogenic iPSC derived neuronal and mononuclear cells demonstrated that CHRFAM7A affects Ca signaling and activates small GTPase Rac1 leading to an actin cytoskeleton gain of function.

Background: The acini, the secretory endpieces of the salivary glands, are composed of serous and/or mucous acinar cells and surrounded by myoepithelial cells. Myoepithelial cells are multipolar, stellate cells with long processes encircling the acini and intercalated ducts. These cells contract to facilitate salivary secretion and transport.

Centrosome amplification (CA), an abnormal increase in the number of centrosomes in the cell, is a recurrent phenomenon in lung and other malignancies. Although CA promotes tumor development and progression by inducing genomic instability (GIN), it also induces mitotic stress that jeopardizes cellular integrity. CA leads to the formation of multipolar mitotic spindles that can cause lethal chromosome segregation errors.

Background: Posterior wall ablation (PWA) is commonly added to pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) during catheter ablation (CA) of persistent atrial fibrillation (AF).
Objective: The purpose of this study was to compare PVI plus PWA using very-high-power short-duration (vHPSD) vs standard-power (SP) ablation index-guided CA among consecutive patients with persistent AF and to determine the voltage correlation between microbipolar and bipolar mapping in AF.
Methods: We compared 40 patients undergoing PVI plus PWA using vHPSD to 40 controls receiving PVI plus PWA using SP.
