A new highly emissive pH-responsive near-IR active digital probe was designed and synthesized. The probe is based on a bisbenzothiazole motif with a highly vulnerable hydrogen unit attached in an intramolecular fashion. The probe produced a large Stokes shift which was observed to be highly pH dependent. The optical pH dependence can be used for sensing pH over a wide range.

In the cerebral cortex, establishing the precise relationship between functional areas and the macroscopic anatomy of gyri and sulci has a paramount importance for the field of neuroimaging and neurosurgical interventions. The anatomical orientation should start with the identification of anatomical landmarks to set the anatomo-functional boundaries. The human central sulcus region stands out as a well-defined structural and functional unit housing the primary motor and sensory cortices and is considered as key region to be identified during brain surgery.

Tuning fork, consisting of two fork arms and a fork handle, has a stable and rigid structure. Inspired by this structure, a tuning fork-shaped DNA (TF-DNA) fluorescence aptasensor was constructed to detect ochratoxin A (OTA) and aflatoxin B1 (AFB1). A TF-DNA double-stranded structure capable of attaching both OTA aptamer labeled with the FAM fluorescent group (FAM-Apt) and AFB1 aptamer labeled with the ROX fluorescent group (ROX-Apt) was designed and linked to magnetic beads.

Hypothesis: The designed organic boronic acid molecule featuring both hydrophilic and hydrophobic moieties, makes a potential functional surfactant. Selective recognition of saccharides through morphological changes of phenylboronic acid-based self-assembly system by saccharide stimulation is a key concept in boronic acid design.
Experiments: In the present study, we designed a tuning-fork-shaped amphiphilic diboronic acid (OPAB-C8) which formed vesicular aggregates through self-assembly in aqueous solution and evaluated its saccharide recognition function.
