Steady states are invaluable in the study of dynamical systems. High-dimensional dynamical systems, due to separation of time scales, often evolve toward a lower dimensional manifold M. We introduce an approach to locate saddle points (and other fixed points) that utilizes gradient extremals on such a priori unknown (Riemannian) manifolds, defined by adaptively sampled point clouds, with local coordinates discovered on-the-fly through manifold learning. The technique, which efficiently biases the dynamical system along a curve (as opposed to exhaustively exploring the state space), requires knowledge of a single minimum and the ability to sample around an arbitrary point. We demonstrate the effectiveness of the technique on the Müller-Brown potential mapped onto an unknown surface (namely, a sphere). Previous work employed a similar algorithmic framework to find saddle points using Newton trajectories and gentlest ascent dynamics; we, therefore, also offer a brief comparison with these methods.

The coupling between defects and extended critical degrees of freedom gives rise to the intriguing theory known as defect conformal field theory (CFT). In this work, we introduce a novel family of boundary and interface CFTs by coupling N Majorana chains with SYK_{q} interactions at the defect. Our analysis reveals that the interaction with q=2 constitutes a new marginal defect.

We extend our previous work on the energetics and mechanisms of fragmentation in the mass spectrometry of triacylglycerols (TAGs). Previously, we proposed viable mechanisms for the collision-induced fragmentation of lithiated tripropionylglycerol using triple-quadrupole mass spectrometry. In this work, we used a QqLIT mass spectrometer to study both double- and triple-stage spectra from a range of TAGs having acid chains of types AAA (identical acid chains), AAB, ABA, and ABC, with chain lengths of 6-18 carbon atoms; we also studied some TAGs having a single double bond in the Δ-9 position.

Extremely unbalanced data refers to datasets with independent or dependent variables showing severe imbalances in proportions, which might lead to deviation of classical test statistics from theoretical distribution and difficulties in controlling type Ⅰ error. The increased availability of genome-wide resources from large population cohorts has highlighted the growing demand for efficient and accurate statistical methods for the process of extremely unbalanced data to improve the development of genetic statistical methods. This paper introduces two widely used correction methods in current genome-wide association study for extremely unbalanced data, i.

Two-dimensional (2D) Janus structures with the breaking of out-of-plane mirror symmetry can induce many interesting physical phenomena, and have attracted widespread attention. Herein, we propose a MoPS monolayer with mirror asymmetry, identified by first-principles structural search calculations, which demonstrates high thermodynamic and dynamic stability. Our findings reveal that Mo 4d-orbitals dominate the metallicity, significantly enhancing the density of states near the Fermi level due to Van Hove singularities (VHSs), leading to the existence of phonon-mediated superconductivity.

Model integration refers to the process of incorporating a fitted historical model into the estimation of a current study to increase statistical efficiency. Integration can be challenging when the current model includes new covariates, leading to potential model misspecification. We present and evaluate seven existing and novel model integration techniques, which employ both likelihood constraints and Bayesian informative priors.
