Introduction: utism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a heterogeneous clinical condition, and its genetic basis is widely confirmed. The chromosomal microarray analysis (CMA) is a first-line diagnostic test that identifies copy number variants (CNVs). Some of these genomic rearrangements are associated with ASD, but the meaning of most of them is still unknown.
Materials And Methods: We performed a comparative genome hybridization (array-CGH) analysis in 130 children with confirmed ASD. Genetic results were analyzed and compared to clinical phenotype.
Results And Discussion.: 61/130 children carry CNVs, 44 presenting variants of unknown significance (u-CNVs), and 17 with susceptibility-CNVs (c-CNVs). Clinical evaluation showed no differences in cognitive abilities, language and EEG abnormalities, ASD symptoms among CNVs group and other patients. Finally, we highlight the role of GPHN, IMMP2L and ZMYND11, as ASD susceptibility genes.
Conclusions: Our findings underscore the importance of array-CGH in ASD children since new CNVs and emerging genes appear to be associated with different clinical pictures.

Background: Identification of young children with ( )-infection is critical to curb Tuberculosis (TB)-related pediatric morbidity and mortality. The optimal test to identify young children with evidence of -infection remains controversial.
Methods: Using a TB household contact (HHC) study design among 130 Ugandan children less than 5 years with established -exposure, we compared the usefulness of the tuberculin skin test (TST) and QuantiFERON Gold Plus (QFT-Plus) to identify children with evidence for -sensitization.

Background: Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) has been reported to confer an increased risk of natural premature death. Telomere erosion caused by oxidative stress is a common consequence in age-related diseases. However, whether telomere length (TL) and oxidative indicators are significantly changed in ASD patients compared with controls remains controversial.

Abscess-forming cervical bacterial infections are rare and serious infections. We retrospectively examined the trends in abscess-forming cervical bacterial infections in children who required inpatient treatment in three periods before (January 2016 to June 2020), during (July 2020 to December 2022) and after the COVID-19 pandemic (January 2023 to June 2024). The study included 96 patients with superficial cervical abscesses and 111 patients with deep cervical abscesses (34 with retropharyngeal abscesses, 51 with peritonsillar abscesses, and 26 with deep neck abscesses).

Proteomics accelerates diagnosis and research of muscular diseases by enabling the robust analysis of proteins relevant for the manifestation of neuromuscular diseases in the following aspects: (i) evaluation of the effect of genetic variants on the corresponding protein, (ii) prediction of the underlying genetic defect based on the proteomic signature of muscle biopsies, (iii) analysis of pathophysiologies underlying different entities of muscular diseases, key for the definition of new intervention concepts, and (iv) patient stratification according to biochemical fingerprints as well as (v) monitoring the success of therapeutic interventions. This review presents-also through exemplary case studies-the various advantages of mass proteomics in the investigation of genetic muscle diseases, discusses technical limitations, and provides an outlook on possible future application concepts. Hence, proteomics is an excellent large-scale analytical tool for the diagnostic workup of (hereditary) muscle diseases and warrants systematic profiling of underlying pathophysiological processes.
