Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate whether there is any association between the levels of the angiogenic growth factors and the vascular oxygen saturation in eyes with diabetic retinopathy.
Methods: The study was designed as a prospective trial. The cohort consisted of 29 diabetic patients with scheduled vitreous procedures (intravitreal injection or pars plana vitrectomy). The control group included 30 patients scheduled for macular surgery (macular hole or epiretinal membrane). Nine patients (four from the diabetic maculopathy [DM] group and five from the control group) were excluded from the study because of unsuccessful vitreous samples. Retinal oximetry was performed several hours before the vitreous procedure was performed, and vitreous samples were obtained during the procedure. The concentrations of VEGF, Serpin F1/pigment epithelium-derived factor (PEDF), and placental growth factor (PlGF) were measured by ELISA.
Results: A negative correlation between level of VEGF and arteriovenous (AV) saturation difference was determined in the DM group (Pearson correlation coefficient r = -0.607; two-tailed test, P = 0.002). Also a negative correlation between level of PlGF and AV saturation difference was determined in the DM group (Pearson correlation coefficient r = -0.521; two-tailed test, P = 0.011) A positive correlation between PlGF level and the vein saturation was not statistically significant (Pearson correlation coefficient r = 0.325; two-tailed test, P = 0.130). We did not find any correlation between vitreous level of PEDF and vascular saturation within the DM group.
Conclusions: Our findings in diabetic patients suggests a correlation between the intravitreal level of proangiogenic factors and the AV difference measured by retinal oximetry.

Background: At present, China's elderly population is facing several difficulties. The implementation of active aging is an important initiative in the face of the rapidly developing situation of population aging, among which improving elderly expectations regarding the aging level is the key link to achieving active aging. Improving the quality of life of the majority of elderly individuals is the main goal of active aging.

Purpose: To evaluate the consistency and agreement between portal venous pressure measured by fine-needle (F), portal vein catheterization (D), and hepatic vein balloon-occlusion (W) in decompensated cirrhotic patients with intrahepatic venovenous shunts (IHVS).
Materials And Methods: 156 consecutive patients planning to receive transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt in our center were screened for study participation. The F/D/W were assessed for consistency by Pearson coefficient (r), linear regression coefficient (R), and intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC), and for disagreement (error exceeding 20% of D) by Bland-Altman method.

Burnout is a significant issue among healthcare professionals, particularly nurses, due to high workloads and emotional demands. However, limited research has explored burnout among primary healthcare nurses in Saudi Arabia, who play a vital role in healthcare delivery. This study aims to address this gap by investigating burnout levels and their association with anxiety, depression and self-efficacy among primary healthcare nurses.

Purpose: To perform association analyses between the measurements of photopic negative response (PhNR) evoked by two ISCEV protocols.
Methods: A total of 172 eyes from 72 post-operative pediatric cataract patients and 24 healthy children were enrolled. The amplitude and peak time of PhNR were analyzed in three eye groups, 1.

Background: Many researchers have proposed incorporating orbital volume (OV) discrepancies between the affected and unaffected orbits into routine diagnostic processes as an indicator for early surgical repair of zygomatic complex fractures (ZMCFxs) to avoid postoperative ocular complications.
Purpose: The study aimed to determine the correlation between the preoperative OV discrepancy and postoperative globe position.
Study Design, Setting, Sample: A retrospective cohort study was performed on patients with unilateral ZMCFxs associated with orbital floor fractures, treated at Al-Zahraa Hospital, Al-Azhar University, from January 2020 to July 2023.
