High-performance semiconductor materials and devices are needed to supply the growing energy and computing demand. Organic semiconductors (OSCs) are attractive options for opto-electronic devices, due to their low cost, extensive tunability, easy fabrication, and flexibility. Semiconducting single-walled carbon nanotubes (s-SWCNTs) have been extensively studied due to their high carrier mobility, stability and opto-electronic tunability. Although molecular charge transfer doping affords widely tunable carrier density and conductivity in s-SWCNTs (and OSCs in general), a pervasive challenge for such systems is reliable measurement of charge carrier density and mobility. In this work we demonstrate a direct quantification of charge carrier density, and by extension carrier mobility, in chemically doped s-SWCNTs by a nuclear magnetic resonance approach. The experimental results are verified by a phase-space filling doping model, and we suggest this approach should be broadly applicable for OSCs. Our results show that hole mobility in doped s-SWCNT networks increases with increasing charge carrier density, a finding that is contrary to that expected for mobility limited by ionized impurity scattering. We discuss the implications of this important finding for additional tunability and applicability of s-SWCNT and OSC devices.

Background: Lipid metabolism is influenced by mutations in the EH domain binding protein 1 gene (EHBP1). This study investigated the link between the EHBP1 single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and dyslipidemia risks in maintenance dialysis patients with end-stage renal disease in Chinese Han population.

Methods: A total of 539 patients were divided into dyslipidemia (379) and control (160) groups.

Topological semimetals have recently garnered widespread interest in the quantum materials research community due to their symmetry-protected surface states with dissipationless transport which have potential applications in next-generation low-power electronic devices. One such material, [Formula: see text], exhibits Dirac nodal arcs and although the topological properties of single crystals have been investigated, there have been no reports in crystalline thin film geometry. We examined the growth of [Formula: see text] heterostructures on a range of single crystals by optimizing the electron beam evaporation of Pt and Sn and studied the effect of vacuum thermal annealing on phase and crystallinity.

Photocatalytic technology holds significant promise for sustainable development and environmental protection due to its ability to utilize renewable energy sources and degrade pollutants efficiently. In this study, BiOI nanosheets (NSs) were synthesized using a simple water bath method with varying amounts of mannitol and reaction temperatures to investigate their structural, morphological, photoelectronic, and photocatalytic properties. Notably, the introduction of mannitol played a critical role in inducing a transition in BiOI from an n-type to a p-type semiconductor, as evidenced by Mott-Schottky (M-S) and band structure analyses.

Cisplatin-based platinum compounds are important clinical chemotherapeutic agents that participate in most tumor chemotherapy regimens. Through density-functional theory calculations, the formation and stability of the inorganic oxide carrier, the mechanisms of the hydrolysis reaction of the activated platinum compound, and its binding mechanism with DNA bases can be studied. The higher the oxidation state of Pt (II to IV), the more electrons transfer from the magnesia-gold composite material to the platinum compound.

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR), a consequence of the ability of microorganisms, especially bacteria, to develop resistance against conventional antibiotics, hampering the treatment of common infections, is recognized as one of the most imperative health threats of this century. Antibacterial photodynamic therapy (aPDT) has emerged as a promising alternative strategy, utilizing photosensitizers activated by light to generate reactive oxygen species (ROS) that kill pathogens without inducing resistance. In this work, we synthesized silica nanoparticles (NPs) of different sizes (20 nm, 80 nm, and 250 nm) functionalized with the photosensitizer Rose Bengal (RB) and a gluconamide ligand, which targets Gram-negative bacteria, to assess their potential in aPDT.
