Oscar Pistorius's parole in January 2024 offers a new perspective on the South African runner. This article examines Pistorius within the context of social factors that influenced his behavior and the murder of Reeva Steenkamp. Drawing on Connell's gender order theory, Messner's triad of violence, and affective atmosphere, it reveals how Pistorius, despite his disability, embraced hegemonic masculinity and became a sports star.

In recent years, the increased integration of palliative care throughout the entire trajectory of illness has helped patients with cancer better manage their symptoms and improve QOL. Background: Undocumented individuals with hematologic malignancies in the United States face barriers to receiving often-curative stem cell transplant (SCT), instead receiving inferior treatment with higher mortality. Federal and state policies' impact on undocumented individuals' lived experiences goes unnoticed.
Objective: To understand the experiences of this rare population of undocumented individuals with hematologic malignancies who cannot receive medically indicated SCT.

In adopting reductive instrumentalism as a dominant discourse medical education can be seen to have cultivated a values monoculture resistant to innovation. This culture characteristically retreats to the safety of conservatism rather than diversifying and innovating to embrace values beyond the functional - such as the ethical, aesthetic, and political. Here - where teaching displaces facilitation of learning - training is privileged over education, competence over capability, linearity over complexity, and information over knowledge.
