We present, to the best of our knowledge, a new method for retrieval of aerosol optical depth from multichannel irradiance measurements. A radiative transfer model is used to simulate measurements to create the new aerosol optical depth retrieval method. A description of the algorithm, simulations, proof of principle, merits, possible future developments and implementations is provided. As a demonstration, measurements in the New York City area are simulated based on the specific channel configuration of an existing multichannel irradiance instrument. Verification of the method with irradiance measurement data is also provided.

Introduction: TWe investigated impacts of particulate matter with an aerodynamic diameter of less than 2.5 μm (PM), relative humidity (RH), and temperature on sleep stages and arousal.
Materials And Methods: A cross-sectional analysis involving 8,611 participants was conducted at a sleep center in Taipei.

For a given solar elevation, the levels of solar ultraviolet radiation at the Earth's surface are determined by the amounts of ozone, aerosols, and clouds, as well as by the reflectivity of the surface. Here, we study the evolution of these factors for three selected decades in the period 1950-2100 using results from simulations with Earth-System models (ESMs) participating in the 6 phase of the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project (CMIP6). The simulations for the future are based on three Shared Socioeconomic Pathways: SSP1-2.

Tuberculosis (TB) is the second deadliest infectious disease worldwide. Current TB diagnostics utilize sputum samples, which are difficult to obtain, and sample processing is time-consuming and difficult. This study developed an integrated diagnostic platform for the rapid visual detection of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) in breath samples at the point-of-care (POC), especially in resource-limited settings.

The light-absorbing chemical components of atmospheric organic aerosols are commonly referred to as Brown Carbon (BrC), reflecting the characteristic yellowish to brown appearance of aerosol. BrC is a highly complex mixture of organic compounds with diverse compositions and variable optical properties of its individual chromophores. BrC significantly influences the radiative budget of the climate and contributes to adverse air pollution effects such as reduced visibility and the presence of inhalable pollutants and irritants.

Aerosol particles in the PM fraction considerably influence the climate-related effects of aerosols and impact human health despite representing very variable fractions of the total aerosol mass concentration. Aerosol optical measurement techniques (aerosol light scattering) may not be sufficiently effective for detecting all particles in the PM fraction, particularly regarding number concentration. The present study investigates temporal variations of aerosol light scattering properties and particle number concentration (PNC) at different size modes in the PM fraction at the atmospheric site ATOLL (The Atmospheric Observations in Lille), Northern France from January 2018 to February 2023.
