Organic vertical transistors are promising device with benefits such as high operation speed, high saturation current density, and low-voltage operation owing to their short channel length. However, a short channel length leads to a high off-current, which is undesirable because it affects the on-off ratio and power consumption. This study presents a breakthrough in the development of high-performance organic Schottky barrier transistors (OSBTs) with a low off-current by utilizing a near-ideal source electrode with a web-like Ag nanowire (AgNW) morphology. This is achieved by employing a humidity- and surface-tension-mediated liquid-film rupture technique, which facilitates the formation of well-connected AgNW networks with large pores between them. Therefore, the gate electric field is effectively transmitted to the semiconductor layer. Also, the minimized surface area of the AgNWs causes complete suppression of the off-current and induces ideal saturation of the OSBT output characteristics. p- and n-type OSBTs exhibit off-currents in the picoampere range with on/off ratios exceeding 10 and 10, respectively. Furthermore, complementary inverters are prepared using an aryl azide cross-linker for patterning, with a gain of >16. This study represents a significant milestone in the development of high-performance organic vertical transistors and verifies their applicability in organic electronic circuitry.

The efficient immobilization of redox mediators remains a major challenge in the design of mediated enzyme electrode platforms. In addition to stability, the ability of the redox-active material to mediate electron transfer from the active-site buried enzymes, such as flavin adenine dinucleotide-dependent glucose dehydrogenase (FADGDH) and lactate oxidase (LOx), is also crucial. Conventional immobilization techniques can be synthetically challenging, and immobilized mediators often exhibit limited durability, particularly in continuous operation.

Understanding the interplay between the molecular structure of the ionic liquid (IL) subunit, the resulting nanostructure and ion transport in polymerized ionic liquids (PILs) is necessary for the realization of high-performance solid-state electrolytes required in various advanced applications. Herein, we present a detailed structural characterization of a recently synthesized series of acrylate-based PIL homopolymers and networks with imidazolium cations and chloride anions with varying alkyl spacer and terminal group lengths designed for organic solid-state batteries based on X-ray scattering. The impact of the concentrations of both the crosslinker and added tetrabutylammonium chloride (TBACl) conducting salt on the structural characteristics is also investigated.

The high responsivity and broad spectral sensitivity of organic photodetectors (OPDs) present a bright future of commercialization. However, the relatively high dark current density still limits its development. Herein, two novel nonpolar p-type conjugated small molecules, NSN and NSSN, are synthesized as interface layers to enhance the performance of the OPDs, which not only can tune energy alignments and increase the reverse charge injection barrier but also can reduce the interfacial trap density.

New carbon-based materials (CMs) are recommended as attractively active materials due to their diverse nanostructures and unique electron transport pathways, demonstrating great potential for highly efficient energy storage applications, electrocatalysis, and beyond. Among these newly reported CMs, metal-organic framework (MOF)-derived CMs have achieved impressive development momentum based on their high specific surface areas, tunable porosity, and flexible structural-functional integration. However, obstacles regarding the integrity of porous structures, the complexity of preparation processes, and the precise control of active components hinder the regulation of precise interface engineering in CMs.

This study introduces a new nano catalyst tailored for the eco-friendly synthesis of pyrido[2,3-]pyrimidine via a three-component one-pot reaction involving benzaldehydes, malononitrile, and uracil. To achieve this objective, we anchored copper acetate onto the surface of layered double hydroxides modified with 1,3‑benzenedisulfonyl amide (BDSA) (LDH@PTRMS@BDSA@Cu(NO)), which exhibited remarkable activity and selectivity. The main benefits of this method include high product yield, swift reaction times, straightforward purification, catalyst reusability, and the employment of a mild reaction process.
