This study has been motivated by cancer research, in which heterogeneity analysis plays an important role and can be roughly classified as unsupervised or supervised. In supervised heterogeneity analysis, the finite mixture of regression (FMR) technique is used extensively, under which the covariates affect the response differently in subgroups. High-dimensional molecular and, very recently, histopathological imaging features have been analyzed separately and shown to be effective for heterogeneity analysis. For simpler analysis, they have been shown to contain overlapping, but also independent information. In this article, our goal is to conduct the first and more effective FMR-based cancer heterogeneity analysis by integrating high-dimensional molecular and histopathological imaging features. A penalization approach is developed to regularize estimation, select relevant variables, and, equally importantly, promote the identification of independent information. Consistency properties are rigorously established. An effective computational algorithm is developed. A simulation and an analysis of The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) lung cancer data demonstrate the practical effectiveness of the proposed approach. Overall, this study provides a practical and useful new way of conducting supervised cancer heterogeneity analysis.

Knee kinematics during gait in patients with discoid lateral meniscus: a systematic review.

Minerva Pediatr (Torino)

January 2025

Transalpine Center of Pediatric Sports Medicine and Surgery, University of Milano-Bicocca, Monza, Monza-Brianza, Italy.

Introduction: The aim of this study was to evaluate the difference between symptomatic discoid lateral meniscus (DLM) and healthy knees in terms of gait analysis.

Evidence Acquisition: A systematic review was conducted from the electronic databases PubMed/MEDLINE, EMBASE and Scopus. The review was performed on studies that reported data on kinematics, gait analysis, biomechanics in discoid lateral meniscus, before and after surgery.

Background: The ring-augmented Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (raRYGB) has been reported to result in higher long-term weight loss compared to regular Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB). However, the type of ring used varied within studies, leading to heterogeneity in reported results. Therefore, this study compares the 5-year results of RYGB with and without ring augmentation using a specific prefabricated gastric ring.

Background: Surgical clipping and endovascular coiling are both effective in preventing aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage, but the choice between these interventions remains controversial, leading to treatment disparities across medical centers.

Methods: A systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted, including relevant two-arm clinical trials up to September 2023, sourced from Scopus, PubMed, Web of Science, and the Cochrane Library. Our primary outcomes were complete occlusion rates during mid-term and long-term follow-ups.

The objective of this study is to explore the impact of the use of granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF) in female undergoing assisted reproductive technology (ART) on reproductive outcomes. A literature search was performed using electronic databases (PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, CNKI, Wanfang data, Geen Medical, and Cochrane Library). Risk ratio (RR), odds ratio (OR), and mean difference (MD) with 95% confidence intervals (CI) for various outcomes were presented.

Ribosome profiling has revolutionized our understanding of gene expression regulation by providing a snapshot of global translation in vivo. This powerful technique enables the investigation of the dynamics of translation initiation, elongation, and termination, and has provided insights into the regulation of protein synthesis under various conditions. Despite its widespread adoption, challenges persist in obtaining high-quality ribosome profiling data.
