Unveiling the Photoluminescence Mechanism of Carbonized Polymer Dots: Evolution and Synergistic Photoluminescence of Multiple Molecular Fluorophores.

Angew Chem Int Ed Engl

December 2024

State Key Laboratory of Supramolecular Structure and Materials, College of Chemistry, Jilin University, NO.2699 Qianjin Street, Chaoyang District, 130000, Changchun, CHINA.

Carbonized polymer dots (CPDs) are a class of exceptional fluorescent materials with diverse applications. However, their photoluminescence (PL) mechanism remained enigmatic and controversial, hindering further development and application. While molecular fluorophores explain primary fluorescence in some CPDs, the overall PL of CPDs still cannot be fully explained, such as their excitation-dependent behaviors, let alone the modulation of PL.

Theory and application of cavity solitons in photonic devices.

Philos Trans A Math Phys Eng Sci

December 2024

SUPA and Department of Physics, University of Strathclyde, 107 Rottenrow, Glasgow, Scotland G4 0NG, UK.

Driven optical cavities containing a nonlinear medium support stable dissipative solitons, cavity solitons, in the form of bright or dark spots of light on a uniformly-lit background. Broadening effects due to diffraction or group velocity dispersion are balanced by the nonlinear interaction with the medium while cavity losses balance the input energy. The history, properties, physical interpretation and wide application of cavity solitons are reviewed.

As a nonlinear optical phenomenon, upconversion (UC) occurs when two or more low-energy excitation photons are sequentially absorbed and emitted. Upconversion nanomaterials exhibit superior photostability, non-invasiveness, a unique near-infrared anti-Stokes shift, and enhanced tissue penetration capability. However, general upconversion nanomaterials typically utilize visible light (400-700 nm) for excitation, leading to limited tissue penetration, background signal interference, limited excitation efficiency and imaging quality issues due to tissue absorption and scattering.

Research progress on the molecular mechanisms of Saikosaponin D in various diseases (Review).

Int J Mol Med

March 2025

Department of Gastroenterology, Shanghai Municipal Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Shanghai 200071, P.R. China.

Bupleurum, a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herb, is widely used in China and other Asian countries to manage chronic liver inflammation and viral hepatitis. Saikosaponin D (SSD), a triterpenoid saponin extracted from Bupleurum, exhibits extensive pharmacological properties, including anti‑inflammatory, antioxidant, anti‑apoptotic, anti‑fibrotic and anti‑cancer effects, making it a therapeutic candidate for numerous diseases. Clarifying the targets and molecular mechanisms underlying TCM compounds is essential for scientifically validating TCM's therapeutic roles in disease prevention and treatment, as well as for identifying novel therapeutic targets and lead compounds.

Preparation and Characterization of C-Reactive Protein Dual-Particle Latex-Enhanced Immunoturbidimetric Reagents.

BME Front

December 2024

Department of Laboratory Medicine and Center of Infectious Diseases and Pathogen Biology, The First Hospital of Jilin University, Changchun 130021, China.

This study aims to couple C-reactive protein (CRP) antibodies onto latex spheres of 2 different sizes to enhance the accuracy and sensitivity of CRP detection. Furthermore, it seeks to establish a robust methodological framework crucial for advancing the development of latex-enhanced immunoturbidimetric detection reagents. CRP, an acute-phase protein, rapidly elevates in response to infections or tissue damage.
