To evaluate myocardial synchronized exercise and clinical prognosis in patients with heart failure preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF), we utilized two-dimensional speckle tracking (2D-STI) stratified strain imaging. We retrospectively summarized 146 patients diagnosed with HFpEF in our hospital from January 2022 to January 2023. 2D-STI combined with stratified strain imaging was used to measure the overall left ventricular global longitudinal strain (LVGLS), the sub-endocardium, mid-myocardium, sub-epicardium LS of the left ventricle, as well as the basal, intermediate, and apical LS, the peak strain dispersion (PSD) and the transmural pressure difference, the postsystolic shortening (PSS), and early systolic lengthening.

Inheritance of Imaging Parameters of Arrhythmic Risk in Mitral Valve Prolapse: A Pedigree Study.

Circ Cardiovasc Imaging

January 2025

Division of Cardiology, Department of Medicine, University of California, San Francisco (L.C., S.D., D.B., J.J.T., Q.F., L.T., A.H.R., R.J., S.H., H.H.H., Z.H.T., N.B.S., F.N.D.).

Background: A subset of patients with mitral valve prolapse (MVP), a highly heritable condition, experience sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) or sudden cardiac death (SCD). However, the inheritance of phenotypic imaging features of arrhythmic MVP remains unknown.

Methods: We recruited 23 MVP probands, including 9 with SCA/SCD and 14 with frequent/complex ventricular ectopy.

Article Synopsis
  • - Brugada phenocopy (BrP) is characterized by a Brugada-like ECG pattern and can occur due to various conditions, but it doesn't increase the risk of serious heart issues like Brugada syndrome (BrS) does.
  • - A case is presented of a 69-year-old woman with moderate hyponatremia who exhibited a saddle-back ST-segment elevation on her ECG, which was linked to her liver metastases compressing her heart.
  • - The ECG changes resolved quickly after treating her hyponatremia with sodium chloride, demonstrating that even mild electrolyte imbalances can lead to BrP when compounded by other factors like mechanical heart compression.

Persistent left cranial vena cava in a dog.

J Small Anim Pract

November 2024

Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen, Copenhagen, Denmark.

A 10-year-old golden retriever was presented for the evaluation of exercise intolerance. Physical examination and laboratory tests showed no abnormalities except for mild anaemia. Standard transthoracic echocardiography revealed dilated coronary sinus, raising suspicion of a persistent left cranial vena cava, and the persistency of this anomaly was confirmed by agitated-saline study.

Background: Postsystolic shortening (PSS) is one of the proposed quantitative measures to predict myocardial ischaemia in the stress echocardiographic (SE) evaluation. It is previously known that hypo-/akinesia (HA) correlates well with coronary stenosis. However, some patients undergoing SE only present with PSS, and their risk of significant coronary stenosis is less clear.
