Background: Colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the most common malignant tumors, influenced by several genetic loci in its clinical phenotypes. The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between the MMP8 gene polymorphism and CRC risk in the Chinese Han population.
Method: This study recruited 688 CRC patients and 690 healthy controls. The relationship between MMP8 polymorphism and CRC susceptibility was assessed by calculating the odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence interval (CI) after stratifying by age, gender, body mass index (BMI), smoking, and alcohol consumption under a multi-genetic model.
Results: MMP8 rs3740938 was associated with increased CRC predisposition (p = 0.016, OR = 1.24, 95% CI: 1.04-1.48), and this association was detected particularly in subjects aged > 60 years, females, people with BMI > 24 kg/m, smokers, and drinkers. Moreover, rs3740938 was found to be associated with the pathological type of rectal cancer.
Conclusions: Our results first displayed that rs3740938 in MMP8 was a risk factor for CRC predisposition. This finding may provide a new biological perspective for understanding the role of the MMP8 gene in CRC pathogenesis.

COVID-19 has been emerging as the most influential illness which has caused great costs to the heath of population and social economy. Sivelestat sodium (SS) is indicated as an effective cure for lung dysfunction, a characteristic symptom of COVID-19 infection, but its pharmacological target is still unclear. Therefore, a deep understanding of the pathological progression and molecular alteration is an urgent issue for settling the diagnosis and therapy problems of COVID-19.

Introduction: Sepsis-induced cardiomyopathy is a common complication of sepsis and is associated with higher mortality. To date, effective diagnostic and management strategies are still lacking. Recent studies suggest that ferroptosis plays a critical role in sepsis-induced cardiomyopathy and ferroptosis inhibitor Ferrostatin-1 (Fer-1) improved cardiac dysfunction and survival in lipopolysaccharide (LPS) induced endotoxemia.

Background: Head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) contributes significantly to global health challenges, presenting primarily in the oral cavity, pharynx, nasopharynx, and larynx. HNSCC has a high propensity for lymphatic metastasis. Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL), the most common subtype of non-Hodgkin lymphoma, exhibits significant heterogeneity and aggressive behavior, leading to high mortality rates.

Inflammation plays an essential role in the phases of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) as the joints secrete a range of molecules that modulate the inflammatory process. While therapies based on physical properties have shown effectiveness in a range of animal experimental models, the understanding of their biological mechanisms remains unclear. The aim of this study was to investigate the immunomodulatory effects of a 0.
