Role models play a crucial role in inspiring and guiding careers in science, offering tangible examples of success and resilience. Reflecting on my journey from a small town in southern Chile to leading a lab at Karolinska Institutet, I've learned that relatable role models are particularly impactful for overcoming imposter syndrome and fostering a sense of belonging in academia. Early in my career, I drew inspiration from peers and mentors, gradually building my confidence and embracing my strengths.

This review delves into the latest advancements in controlling three-phase boundaries (TPBs) in photocatalytic systems, with a focus on photo(electro)catalytic processes for nitrogen reduction, oxygen reduction, and water reduction. We critically analyze various strategies and advanced materials designed to enhance TPB performance, evaluating their impact on catalytic efficiency and identifying gaps in the existing literature. By examining sophisticated triphasic systems that integrate superwetting materials, we emphasize their essential role in improving light absorption, charge separation, and mass transfer.

3D printing has garnered significant attention across academia and industry due to its capability to design and fabricate complex architectures. Applications such as those requiring intricate geometries or custom designs, including footwear, healthcare, energy storage, and electronics applications, greatly benefit from exploiting 3D printing processes. Despite the recent advancement of structural 3D printing, its use in functional devices remains limited, requiring the need for the development of functional materials suitable for 3D printing in device fabrication.

Histidine modifications of proteins are broadly based on chemical methods triggering N-substitution reactions such as aza-Michael addition at histidine's moderately nucleophilic imidazole side chain. While recent studies have demonstrated chemoselective, histidine-specific modifications by further exploiting imidazole's electrophilic reactivity to overcome interference from the more nucleophilic lysine and cysteine, achieving site-specific histidine modifications remains a major challenge due to the absence of spatial control over chemical processes. Herein, through X-ray crystallography and cryo-electron microscopy structural studies, we describe the rational design of a nature-inspired, noncanonical amino-acid-incorporated, human ferritin-based metalloenzyme that is capable of introducing site-specific post-translational modifications (PTMs) to histidine in peptides and proteins.

Lignin has long been regarded as waste, readily separated and discarded from the pulp and paper industry. However, as the most abundant aromatic renewable biopolymer in nature, lignin can replace petroleum resources to prepare chemicals containing benzene rings. Therefore, the high-value transformation of lignin has attracted the interest of both academia and industry.
