Whether it be due to genetic variances, lack of patient adherence, or sub-optimal drug metabolism, the risk of antibiotic resistance from medications administered systemically continues to pose significant challenges to fighting infectious diseases. Ideally, infections would be treated locally for maximal efficacy while minimizing off-target effects. The electrospinning of biomaterials has recently facilitated the creation of electrospun nanofibers as an alternative delivery vehicle for local treatment.

Li-ion and Na-ion batteries are promising systems for powering electric vehicles and grid storage. Layered 3d transition metal oxides ATMO (A = Li, Na; TM = 3d transition metals; 0 < x ≤ 2) have drawn extensive attention as cathode materials due to their exceptional energy densities. However, they suffer from several technical challenges caused by crystal structure degradation associated with TM ions migration, such as poor cycling stability, inferior rate capability, significant voltage hysteresis, and serious voltage decay.

Lung cancer is one of the most malignant tumor, representing a significant threat to human health. In China, its mortality rate is the highest among all malignant tumors. The occurrence of drug resistance has resulted in unfavourable prognosis for patients with lung cancer, and overcoming drug resistance is a significant challenge that needs to be addressed.

Wildlife forensics is a relatively underexplored field of science. It provides forensic evidence to support legal investigations involving wildlife crime, such as the trafficking and poaching of animals and/or their goods. The consequences of poaching are not just limited to a decline in animal welfare and include the spread of zoonotic disease, species, cultural and habitat loss, and injury of anti-poaching rangers.

The multiple crises (climate, biodiversity, austerity) facing our socio-ecological systems require ambitious responses; with much of the responsibility for protecting public goods and developing sustainably lying with public policy. To tackle these wicked problems, there are increasing calls for policy coherence: to use the levers of government in a more holistic and systemic manner. Land use transformation is crucial to achieving these ambitions.
