Hydrogen, as a promising clean energy carrier, underscores the critical need for reliable detection technologies to ensure its safe and efficient use. Magnesium (Mg) thin films, with their hydrogenochromic properties, are particularly well-suited for hydrogen sensing applications due to their dramatic optical transitions. However, practical implementation faces challenges in achieving both rapid response and durability under cyclic conditions.

Growth of lithium whiskers or dendrites is the major obstacle towards safe and stable utilization of lithium metal anodes in rechargeable batteries. In this study, we look deeper into the mechanism of lithium electrodeposition. We find that before lithium whisker or dendrite nucleation occurs, lithium is deposited into the grain boundaries of the metal electrode, which we directly observed in the focused ion beam cross-sections of the lithium electrode.

: Orthodontic archwires undergo chemical and structural changes in the complex intraoral environment. The present work aims to investigate the safe duration for intraoral use (related to the nickel release hypothesis) of different types of nickel-containing wires. By analyzing how the nickel content (NC) varies over time, we aim to provide practical recommendations for the optimal use of said archwires.

In this article, we discuss an unusual pattern in long-crack behavior at low stress intensity factor ranges ΔK (below ΔK), characterized by an initial dip, followed by a plateau, and then an acceleration in fatigue crack growth (FCG) rate. This unanticipated FCG behavior was first observed experimentally in the IMI 834 alloy and reported by Marci in 1996. Such an anomaly is only reported from experimental observation but cannot be understood or explained using the plasticity, roughness, or oxide-induced crack closure assumptions.
