A set of substituted 1,4,7-triazacyclononane ligands was synthesised, including a wide series of novel derivatives bearing a thiazole or thiophene side group, with the potential to incorporate these derivatives into a polymeric material; some previously known/studied ligands were also synthesised for comparative purposes. The corresponding copper(II) complexes were prepared, and their ability to mediate the hydrolysis of phosphate ester bonds was studied via UV-Vis spectrophotometry, using bis(-nitrophenyl)phosphate as a model substrate. Some of the prepared complexes showed a considerable enhancement of the phosphate ester hydrolysis in comparison with previously studied systems, which makes them some of the most effective complexes ever tested for this purpose. Therefore, these novel, potentially bifunctional systems could provide the possibility of creating new coating materials for medicinal devices that could prevent biofilm formation.

A Redox-Active Copper Complex for Orthogonal Detection of Homocysteine Involving Fluorescence and Electrochemical Techniques.

The present work reports the synthesis, characterization, and excited state photo-physical studies of two copper(II) compounds, 1 & 2, which show interference-free emission with homocysteine (Hcy). Cu(II) complexes offer an orthogonal detection strategy involving fluorescence and electrochemical methods, paving the way for improved point-of-care diagnostics and early cardiovascular diseases intervention. The reduction-induced emission enhancement (RIEE) of Cu complexes facilitates the fluorescence measurement of Hcy at physiological pH.

[CuL(tmen)] is a sequence of four ternary mononuclear Schiff base copper(II) complexes that are derived from L-valine, suitable 5'-substituted-2'-hydroxyacetophenones (where the substituents are -Cl for L, -Me for L, -OMe for L, and -H for L), and tmen (where tmen-N,N,N',N' tetramethyl ethylenediamine). Without isolating the Schiff base ligand or producing any other intermediate products, all of the complexes were synthesised. These compounds were identified using elemental analysis, molar conductance, UV-Vis, FTIR, EPR, VSM-RT, and CD spectra.

Nine metal complexes formed by three symmetric β-diketonates (, acetylacetonate (), 1,1,1,3,3,3-hexafluoro-acetylacetonate (), and 2,2,6,6-tetramethylheptane-3,5-dionate ()) and three metal ions (with three different coordination geometries, , Be - tetrahedral, Cu - square planar, and Pb - "swing" square pyramidal) were investigated. The study combines structural analyses, vibrational spectroscopic techniques, and quantum chemical calculations with the aim of bridging crystal structure, electronic structure, molecular topology, and far-infrared (FIR) spectroscopic characteristics. The effect of intramolecular interactions on the structural, electronic, and spectroscopic features is the center of this study.

Copper isotopes and their complexes are intensively studied due to their high potential for applications in radiodiagnosis and radiotherapy. Here, we study the Cu complex of 1,8-bis(2-hydroxybenzyl)-cyclam (HL), which forms an unexpected variety of isomers differing in the mutual orientation of the substituents on the cyclam nitrogen atoms, the protonation of the phenolate pendant, and the ligand denticity. The interconversion of the isomers is rather slow, which made the isolation, identification and investigation of some of the individual species possible.
