Multifunctional materials with a coexistence of proton conduction properties, single-molecule magnet (SMM) behaviors and magneto-optical Faraday effects have rarely been reported. Herein, a new pair of Cu(II)-Dy(III) enantiomers, [DyCu(-HL)(HO)(NO)]·(NO)·(HO) (- and -) (HL = [/] -N,N'-bis [3-hydroxysalicylidene] -1,2-cyclohexanediamine), has been designed and prepared using homochiral Schiff-base ligands. - and - contain linear Cu(II)-Dy(III)-Cu(II) trinuclear units and possess 1D stacking channels within their supramolecular networks. - and - display chiral optical activity and strong magneto-optical Faraday effects. Moreover, - shows a zero-field SMM behavior. In addition, - demonstrates humidity- and temperature-dependent proton conductivity with optimal values of 1.34 × 10 S·cm under 50 °C and 98% relative humidity (RH), which is related to a 1D extended H-bonded chain constructed by water molecules, nitrate and phenol groups of the -HL ligand.

Tuneable, variable, optical attenuation through an optical circulator with a broad, linear attenuation range of Δ ∼ (30-40) dB is demonstrated using non-reciprocal Faraday rotation in a double-pass configuration with a combination of permanent magnets and an electromagnet. A fiber-coupled magneto-optical variable optical attenuator (MVOA) operates over the near IR with an attenuation tuning range of Δ > 30 dB, a resolution of Δ ∼ 0.02 dB, a response time of  < 2 ms, and a temperature dependence over  = 25-70°C of Δ / Δ = -8 × 10 dB/°C.

It is difficult to detect and identify natural defects in welded components. To solve this problem, according to the Faraday magneto-optical (MO) effect, a nondestructive testing system for MO imaging, excited by an alternating magnetic field, is established. For the acquired MO images of crack, pit, lack of penetration, gas pore, and no defect, Gaussian filtering, bilateral filtering, and median filtering are applied for image preprocessing.

In view of the recent increased interest in light-induced manipulation of magnetism in nanometric length scales this work presents metal clusters as promising elementary units for generating all-optical ultrafast magnetization. We perform a theoretical study of the opto-magnetic properties of metal clusters through ab-initio real-time (RT) simulations in real-space using time-dependent density functional theory (TDDFT). Through ab-initio calculations of plasmon excitation with circularly polarized laser pulse in atomically precise clusters of simple and noble metals, we discuss the generation of orbital magnetic moments due to the transfer of angular momentum from light field through optical absorption at resonance energies.

To design an innovative magneto-optical material aimed at a large Verdet constant coincides with the development trend of state-of-the-art modern optical devices. In this work, a magneto-optical transparent PrZrO ceramic with pyrochlore structure was successfully fabricated by vacuum sintering plus hydrogen reduction for the first time to our knowledge. The two- and three-dimensional images observed on the laser scanning confocal microscopy reveal that the grain-boundary dent depth of the polished PrZrO ceramic is only ∼1.
