The development of multifunctional magnetic nanocomposites as a drug delivery system for cancer therapy is highly desirable in current nanomedicine. Herein, folic acid-bovine serum albumin conjugate (FA-BSA) was modified on nanocomposites by combining quantum-sized FeO and layered double hydroxide (LDH) to obtain a novel FA-BSA/FeO@LDH for the delivery of the anticancer drug 5-Fluorouracil (5-Fu). The prepared nanocomposites showed good dispersibility, colloidal stability, magnetic property and erythrocyte compatibility. FA-BSA/FeO@LDH/5-Fu showed pH responsiveness, with both the amount and duration of release of FA-BSA/FeO@LDH/5-Fu being significantly higher in pH 5.0 release medium than in pH 7.4 release medium. The cellular experiments implied that no significant cytotoxicity of FA-BSA/FeO@LDH, particularly due to the presence of FA-BSA, which further enhanced the biocompatibility of the nanocomposite. Furthermore, FA-BSA/FeO@LDH/5-Fu could specifically target the 2D HepG2 cells model and 3D hepatoma cell microspheres model in vitro, and efficient internalization through folate receptor-mediated endocytosis, showing excellent anti-cancer cell activity in a concentration-dependent manner. Therefore, the constructed FA-BSA/FeO@LDH was able to provide a potential novel multifunctional nanocomposite for magnetic-targeting drug delivery and pH-responsive release of drugs to enhance the efficiency of cancer therapy.

A novel nanocomposite magnetic hydrogel was synthesized based on κ-carrageenan, acrylic acid, and activated carbon as an absorbent for removing heavy metal ions from aqueous solution. FT-IR spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and vibration sample magnetometer (VSM) were employed to confirm the structure of the nanocomposite hydrogels. The effects of contact time, pH, particle size, temperature, and metal ion concentration on the metal ion adsorption were investigated.

This study aims to modify raw zeolite with metal oxide nanocomposites to remove nickel (Ni) ions from synthetic wastewater. Novel zeolite-doped magnesium oxide (MgO), iron oxide (FeO), and zinc oxide (ZnO) nanocomposites were synthesized by hydrothermal-calcination methods. The novel zeolite-doped metal oxide nanocomposites were used as adsorbents to remove Ni (II) ions from synthetic wastewater.

Novel functional materials possessing the capability to attenuate electromagnetic energy are being increasingly incorporated into home decor as concerns over excessive electromagnetic radiation pollution continue to grow. The properties of magnetism and dielectricity in the flexible peanut shell/CoFeO/reduced graphene oxide/polyvinyl alcohol (PS/CF/(RGO)/PVA) nanocomposites can be finely tuned by adjusting the amount of RGO in the mixture. An examination of the composite's absorption capabilities revealed a direct link between higher RGO content and enhanced absorption.

Spin-dependent charge tunneling transport of magnetic nanocomposites under alternating current or direct current has revolutionized the understanding of the quantum-mechanical phenomenon in complex granular solids. The tunnel magnetodielectric (TMD) and tunnel magnetoresistance (TMR) effects are two critical functionalities in this context, where dielectric permittivity and electrical resistance, respectively, change in response to an applied magnetic field due to charge tunneling. However, the structural correlation between TMD and TMR, as well as the mechanisms, remains poorly understood, largely due to the challenges in directly characterizing nanoscale intergranular interactions.
