Endometriosis (EMs) is an inflammatory, estrogen-dependent disease characterized by the growth of endometrial-like tissue outside the uterus. Despite many efforts to develop effective treatment regimens, the overall response to halting EMs progression so far remains unsatisfactory. Herein, we explored and synthesized a biomimic macrophage membrane-decorated MnO nanosheet (MM-NS) as a nanozyme capable of scavenging estrogen for EMs treatment. This nanosystem exhibited good solubility and potent estradiol scavenging activities. As expected, MM-NS effectively inhibited cell proliferation and inflammation in an estradiol scavenging-dependent way. In vivo MM-NS targeted to ectopic lesions and effectively suppressed lesion growth in endometriosis mice model, which could be attributed to the inhibition of tissue proliferation and the lower levels of inflammatory factors in peritoneal fluid. Taken together, this study not only revealed a new application scenario for nanozyme but also developed a novel endometriosis treatment strategy by catalyzing the scavenging of estrogen.

Article Synopsis
  • Postinterventional restenosis poses challenges in treating peripheral vascular disease, as current drugs hinder endothelial repair while preventing neointima hyperplasia.
  • Stem cell-derived exosomes offer therapeutic benefits by delivering functional microRNAs but face limitations in targeting and tissue uptake in injured vessels.
  • To improve efficacy, researchers created platelet-mimetic exosomes (PM-EXOs) that enhance targeting to vascular injuries and promote endothelial repair with minimal side effects, demonstrating significant potential in reducing neointima formation.

Article Synopsis
  • * Researchers developed a nanoparticle (LMN) made with macrophage membranes that can recognize cancer cells and deliver the drug LCL161, triggering an immune response by releasing certain proteins and cytokines from the tumor.
  • * The LMNs not only boost antitumor immunity by significantly increasing specific immune cell densities but also inhibit tumor growth in MHC-I-deficient TNBC and enhance survival rates in animal models, highlighting a new approach for treating hard-to-target cancers.

Biofilm-related infections (BRIs) present significant challenges owing to drug resistance, adverse immune responses, and implant failure; however, current approaches inadequately cater to the diverse therapeutic requirements at different stages of infection. To address this issue, a multi-immunotherapy strategy in combination with sonodynamic therapy is proposed for the chronological treatment of BRIs. Macrophage membrane-decorated targeting sonosensitive nanoadjuvants are fabricated to load cytosine-phosphate-guanine oligodeoxynucleotide (CPG-ODN) or microRNA (miR)-21-5p.

Both tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) and hypoxia condition severely restrict the antitumor potency during cancer immunotherapy. It is essential to overcome the two issues for improving therapeutic efficacy. In this study, a hollow mesoporous Prussian blue (HMPB) nanosystem with mannose decoration and hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) adsorption is built, to form Man-HMPB/HCQ.
