Strange-metal behavior has been observed in materials ranging from high-temperature superconductors to heavy fermion metals. In conventional metals, current is carried by quasiparticles; although it has been suggested that quasiparticles are absent in strange metals, direct experimental evidence is lacking. We measured shot noise to probe the granularity of the current-carrying excitations in nanowires of the heavy fermion strange metal YbRhSi. When compared with conventional metals, shot noise in these nanowires is strongly suppressed. This suppression cannot be attributed to either electron-phonon or electron-electron interactions in a Fermi liquid, which suggests that the current is not carried by well-defined quasiparticles in the strange-metal regime that we probed. Our work sets the stage for similar studies of other strange metals.

A highly electron-rich S,N heteroacene building block is developed and condensed with FIC and Cl-IC acceptors to furnish CT-F and CT-Cl, which exhibit near-infrared (NIR) absorption beyond 1000 nm. The C-shaped CT-F and CT-Cl self-assemble into a highly ordered 3D intermolecular packing network via multiple π-π interactions in the single crystal structures. The CT-F-based organic photovoltaic (OPV) achieved an impressive efficiency of 14.

Background: Diffusion-weighted (DW) turbo-spin-echo (TSE) imaging offers improved geometric fidelity compared to single-shot echo-planar-imaging (EPI). However, it suffers from low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and prolonged acquisition times, thereby restricting its applications in diagnosis and MRI-guided radiotherapy (MRgRT).
Purpose: To develop a joint k-b space reconstruction algorithm for concurrent reconstruction of DW-TSE images and the apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) map with enhanced image quality and more accurate quantitative measurements.

In this paper, two models for simulating the shot noise and electronic noise performances of resonant photodetectors designed for homodyne measurements are presented. One is based on a combination of a buffer and a low-noise amplifier, and the other is based on an operational amplifier. Through the comparisons between the numerical simulation results and the experimentally obtained data, excellent agreements are achieved, which show that the models provide a highly efficient guide for the development of a high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) resonant photodetector.

Follicle count, a pivotal metric in the adjunct diagnosis of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), is often underestimated when assessed via transvaginal ultrasonography compared to MRI. Nevertheless, the repeatability of follicle counting using traditional MR images is still compromised by motion artifacts or inadequate spatial resolution. In this prospective study involving 22 PCOS patients, we employed periodically rotated overlapping parallel lines with enhanced reconstruction (PROPELLER) and single-shot fast spin-echo (SSFSE) T2-weighted sequences to suppress motion artifacts in high-resolution ovarian MRI.

Advancements in Raman light sheet microscopy have provided a powerful, non-invasive, marker-free method for imaging complex 3D biological structures, such as cell cultures and spheroids. By combining 3D tomograms made by Rayleigh scattering, Raman scattering, and fluorescence detection, this modality captures complementary spatial and molecular data, critical for biomedical research, histology, and drug discovery. Despite its capabilities, Raman light sheet microscopy faces inherent limitations, including low signal intensity, high noise levels, and restricted spatial resolution, which impede the visualization of fine subcellular structures.
