The burdens of cardiovascular (CV) diseases and cardiotoxic side effects of cancer treatment in oncology patients are increasing in parallel. The European Society of Cardiology (ESC) 2022 Cardio-Oncology guidelines recommend the use of standardized risk stratification tools to determine the risk of cardiotoxicity associated with different anticancer treatment modalities and the severity of their complications. The use of the Heart Failure Association-International Cardio-Oncology Society (HFA-ICOS) is essential for assessing risk prior to starting cancer treatment, and validation of these methods has been performed in patients receiving anthracyclines, human epidermal receptor 2 (HER2)-targeted therapies and breakpoint cluster region-abelson oncogene locus (BCR-ABL) inhibitors.

Human outbreaks of Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV) are more common in Middle Eastern and Asian human populations, associated with clades A and B. In Africa, where clade C is dominant in camels, human cases are minimal. We reviewed 16 studies (n = 6198) published across seven African countries between 2012 and 2024 to assess human MERS-CoV cases.

Bovine viral diarrhea (BVD) is caused by the BVD virus (BVDV) and has been reported worldwide in cattle. To estimate BVDV circulation among cattle where few BVD cases were reported in southern Japan, 1910 serum samples collected from 35 cattle farms without a BVD outbreak were investigated to detect antibodies against BVDV-1 and BVDV-2 using an indicator virus with a cytopathogenic effect and the luciferase gene, respectively. Neutralizing antibodies against BVDV-1 and BVDV-2 were detected more frequently in 18 vaccinated farms than in 17 nonvaccinated farms.

Turcz. is a winter annual species of the Asteraceae family, distributed in sandy areas of northern China, and is crucial for wind avoidance and sand fixation. To understand the inter- and intra-annual population dynamics of in its cold desert habitats, we conducted long- and short-term demographic studies to investigate the timing of germination, seedling survival, soil seed bank and seed longevity of natural populations on the fringe of the Tengger Desert.
