Purpose: The purpose of this study was to assess the ability of pretreatment PET parameters and peripheral blood biomarkers to predict progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) in NSCLC patients treated with ICIT.

Methods: We prospectively included 87 patients in this study who underwent pre-treatment [F]-FDG PET/CT. Organ-specific and total metabolic tumor volume (MTV) and total lesion glycolysis (TLG) were measured using a semiautomatic software. Sites of organ involvement (SOI) were assessed by PET/CT. The log-rank test and Cox-regression analysis were used to assess associations between clinical, laboratory, and imaging parameters with PFS and OS. Time dependent ROC were calculated and model performance was evaluated in terms of its clinical utility.

Results: MTV increased with the number of SOI and was correlated with neutrophil and lymphocyte cell count (Spearman's rho = 0.27 or 0.32; p =.02 or 0.003; respectively). Even after adjustment for known risk factors, such as PD-1 expression and neutrophil cell count, the MTV and the number of SOI were independent risk factors for progression (per 100 cm; adjusted hazard ratio [aHR]: 1.13; 95% confidence interval [95%CI]: 1.01-1.28; p =.04; single SOI vs. ≥ 4 SOI: aHR: 2.26, 95%CI: 1.04-4.94; p =.04). MTV and the number of SOI were independent risk factors for overall survival (per 100 cm aHR: 1.11, 95%CI: 1.01-1.23; p =.03; single SOI vs. ≥ 4 SOI: aHR: 4.54, 95%CI: 1.64-12.58; p =.04). The combination of MTV and the number of SOI improved the risk stratification for PFS and OS (log-rank test p <.001; C-index: 0.64 and 0.67).

Conclusion: The MTV and the number of SOI are simple imaging markers that provide complementary information to facilitate risk stratification in NSCLC patients scheduled for ICIT.

Biosynthesis of 2-phenylethanol from styrene using engineered Escherichia coli whole cells.

2-Phenylethanol, an aromatic alcohol with a rose scent, is widely used in the cosmetics, food, and pharmaceutical industries. We designed an efficient multi-enzyme cascade pathway for production of 2-phenylethanol from styrene as the substrate. Initially, 2-phenylethanol was produced by overexpression of styrene monooxygenase A (styA), styrene monooxygenase B (styB), styrene oxide isomerase (SOI), alcohol dehydrogenase (yahK), and glucose dehydrogenase (gdh) in Escherichia coli to give 6.

This study was carried out to investigate the feeding behavior of Sardinian deer roaming within a site of community interest (SCI, ITB042250), on Sardinian Island (39° 51' N 8° 45' E). Crop fields bordering the natural environment (wood forest and Mediterranean macchia, where the reserve of Sardinian deer partly overlaps) were monitored and turned into a living lab. The interest on wildlife-related crop damage poses a significant economic challenge, while anthropogenic pressures, such as urbanization and agricultural practices, increasingly impact wildlife by limiting habitat, feeding source diversity and access, and space distribution.

Individual Choices of Wintering Areas Drive Adult Survival Heterogeneity in a Long-Lived Seabird.

Seasonal migration has evolved as an adaptation for exploiting peaks of resource abundance and avoiding unfavourable climatic conditions. Differential migratory strategies and choices of wintering areas by long-distance migratory species may impose varying selective pressures and mortality risks with fitness consequences. Recently developed tracking technologies allow wintering movements of migratory species to be studied.

The Swords of Iron (SOI) War is an armed conflict between Israel and Hamas, which has been taking place in Gaza from October 2023 until the present time of writing this article. This war is characterized by urban close contact combat. The combat equipment, weaponry, and protective measures employed, differ markedly from those in previously documented major conflicts, significantly impacting the types of injuries sustained by soldiers.

We designed a multi-channel comb filter generation scheme with nearly consistent channel numbers and free spectral range (FSR) in standard 220-nm-thick silicon-on-insulator (SOI) technology. This scheme relies on the formation of optical microcavities using Bragg grating structures, which serve as reflectors. By precisely designing the optical path length of the microcavity, we can generate optical filters with a specific number of channels.
