AI Article Synopsis

  • Thoracic disc herniations (TDH) are rare compared to cervical and lumbar disc herniations, making their surgical treatment more complex due to anatomical limitations and risks associated with the nearby thoracic spinal cord.
  • Choosing the right surgical approach for TDH depends on factors like herniation size, location, spinal level, calcification presence, and the surgeon's expertise.
  • While posterolateral methods are generally used for soft disc herniations, there's ongoing debate regarding the best treatment for central calcified and giant calcified TDH, with new evidence suggesting that posterolateral approaches may also be safe and effective for these cases.

Objectives: To describe a rapid, community-based assessment, referral and management system for acute symptomatic LDH. To identify and describe specific local anaesthetic and corticosteroid patterns of pain intensity change during the first week post-epidural injection.

Setting: Private practice, specialist physiotherapy clinic, community-based radiology facility.

Background And Objective: The prevalence rate of LDH and its influencing factors in Gansu is unclear. This study aims to analyze the prevalence of LDH and influencing factors in Gansu.

Methods: A stratified multi-stage random sampling method was used to obtain representative samples of residents more than 18 years old from <1500m, 1500-3500m, and >3500m altitude sites in Gansu, China, in June 2022 to August 2022.

Background: For L5/S1 extraforaminal disc herniation, how to efficiently expose the herniated nucleus pulposus and reduce facet joint damage remain to be explored.

Methods: Lumbar discectomy was performed using a full-endoscopic transsacral approach, in which sacral ala and extraforaminal ligament were partially resected to expose the L5/S1 intervertebral disc. Methylene blue was used for disc staining, and the herniated nucleus pulposus was excised through the annular tear.

Microscopic changes in the multifidus muscle in people with low back pain associated with lumbar disc herniation.

Lumbar disc herniation (LDH) is a common degenerative condition causing low back pain (LBP) due to nerve compression. Previous studies show conflicting findings regarding the multifidus (MF) muscle's microscopic changes in LDH patients. So, this study aimed to compare the affected MF to the adjacent MF on the ipsilateral and contralateral sides in LDH patients and examined correlations with clinical features of LBP.

Cervical spondylotic myelopathy (CSM) is a neurological disorder characterized by degenerative changes in the spinal cord and compression of the spinal cord and its adjacent structures due to various reasons, such as intervertebral disc herniation. The Japan Orthopaedic Association score is a disease-specific outcome tool that provides quantitative measurements for CSM patients. At present, no scholars have developed a model that can directly predict the prognosis of CSM patients.
