The increasing prevalence of unintended pregnancies, a persistent issue affecting public health and hindering progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), highlights the critical need for innovative contraceptive approaches. While current methods, including hormonal contraceptives such as levonorgestrel (LNG), offer potential solutions, challenges like limited access and inconsistent use persist. This study introduces a new approach with the development of a three-layer microneedle (TIMN) containing LNG designed to provide extended contraceptive efficacy.

Abnormal fluctuations in blood biomarker levels serve as critical indicators of the disease. However, detecting endogenous substances in whole blood using fluorescent probes is challenging due to its complex composition. This challenge primarily arises from two factors: the high autofluorescence of whole blood and the intrinsic fluorescence of the probe, both contributing to significant background fluorescence in the detection system.

Introduction: Women with hypertensive disorders of pregnancy such as HELLP (hemolysis, elevated liver enzyme, low platelet) Syndrome are affected by acute kidney injury during pregnancy (PR-AKI) at higher rates than women without hypertension. Both hypertensive disorders of pregnancy and Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) outside the context of pregnancy have been associated with an increased risk of developing Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) and cognitive impairment. In our current study, we set out to determine if PR-AKI led to the development of CKD and impaired cognition in the postpartum period and if HELLP syndrome exacerbates the impairments.

The diagnosis of malaria during the autopsy of a decomposed corpse may prove challenging. Macroscopic changes are non-specific and may include, among others, cerebral oedema, pulmonary oedema, hepatosplenomegaly and, on occasion, the presence of petechiae. The most effective diagnostic tools for malaria are the examination of blood smears and the use of rapid immunochromatographic tests.
