Genetic variants play a crucial role in shaping the adaptive phenotypes associated with high-altitude populations. Nevertheless, a comprehensive understanding of the specific impacts of different environments associated with increasing altitudes on the natural selection of these genetic variants remains undetermined. Hence, this study aimed to identify genetic markers responsible for high-altitude adaptation with specific reference to different altitudes, majorly focussing on an altitude elevation range of ∼1500 m and a corresponding decrease of ≥5 % in ambient oxygen availability.

To study afferent and efferent mechanisms of both pathogenesis and forming of the symptoms of dystonia a clinical-electrophysiologic examination was performed in 22 aged 35-69 years patients with cranial dystonia. A wide range of different factors in anamnesis of the patients was found, that had had either short or long influence on the facial zone and that had preceded the development of cranial dystonia (2 month-5 years before its rise). This was called by the authors the peripheral factor of dystonia pathogenesis.

These children represented 3 main groups with speech disturbances: with speech defects which may be logopedically corrected, with speech defect and intact intellectual ability, with considerable disturbances of speech and cognitive functions. The peculiarities of cognitive disturbances were determined in each group.

Respiratory effects of electrical stimulation of the upper airways (UAW) before and during apnoeic episodes induced by nitrogen inhalation were studied in 9 anaesthetized cats. In eupnoeic animals these electrically-evoked reflexes comprise rapid and powerful inspiratory efforts characterized by strong maximal airway occlusion pressures (Pmax = 635 +/- 39 mm H2O) and rapid peak inspiratory flow rates (PIF = 536 +/- 36 ml.sec-1) similar to the sniff-like aspiration reflex elicited mechanically.
