In this paper, we reflect on factors that seem to have influenced the accessibility of medical assistance in dying (MAID) in the Canadian context. Since legalization in 2016, the uptake of MAID has increased rapidly to equal or exceed rates in other countries. In that MAID implementation involves numerous ethical/moral complexities, we consider four factors that appear to have influenced this growth.

Koopman learning with episodic memory.

Chaos

January 2025

AIMdyn, Inc., Santa Barbara, California 93101, USA.

Koopman operator theory has found significant success in learning models of complex, real-world dynamical systems, enabling prediction and control. The greater interpretability and lower computational costs of these models, compared to traditional machine learning methodologies, make Koopman learning an especially appealing approach. Despite this, little work has been performed on endowing Koopman learning with the ability to leverage its own failures.

Unraveling the mystery: effect of trapped air on platelet adhesion on hydrophobic nanostructured titanium dioxide.

Biomater Sci

January 2025

Research Institute for Biomimetics and Soft Matter, Fujian Provincial Key Laboratory for Soft Functional Materials Research, Department of Physics, College of Physical Science and Technology, Xiamen University, Xiamen 361005, China.

Nature-inspired superhydrophobic materials have attracted considerable interest in blood-contacting biomedical applications due to their remarkable water-repellent and self-cleaning properties. However, the interaction mechanism between blood components and superhydrophobic surfaces remains unclear. To explore the effect of trapped air on platelet adhesion, we designed four distinct hydrophobic titanium dioxide (TiO) nanostructures with different fractions of trapped air.

Recent discussions about the utilization of real-world data (RWD) and real-world evidence (RWE) have been more focused on drug development for regulatory approval rather than during the post-marketing stage. In Japan, RWD/RWE have been practically utilized as an external control for drug approval. Most cases were related to orphan diseases where the feasibility of conducting randomized controlled clinical trials was generally low.

A number of studies have tested the factor structure of the suggested ICD-11 symptom criteria for PTSD and complex PTSD (CPTSD) across various trauma populations, finding support for two different models in line with the ICD-11 theoretical rationale. Here, we aim to explore the factor structure of the Danish version of the International Trauma Questionnaire (ITQ) by testing two alternative factor models that have previously gained support in a large sample of treatment-seeking veterans. Treatment-seeking Danish soldiers and veterans ( = 599) recruited from the Military Psychology Department in the Danish Defence completed the International Trauma Questionnaire (ITQ).
