Background: Despite advancements in surgical technique, myocardial shield, and postoperative care, Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) among patients with reduced ejection fraction (EF) remains a surgical challenge due to their greater postoperative morbidity and mortality. This study aims to determine the early outcome of patients with reduced LVEF undergoing CABG and the improvement in the ejection fraction after revascularization.

Methods: A total of 62 patients with impaired Left Ventricular (LV) systolic function (LVEF = 35-40 %) who underwent isolated On-pump CABG at the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery in Assiut University Hospitals and who had met the listed inclusion and exclusion criteria were eligible for the study. Different variables (preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative) were collected, studied, and compared.

Results: The mean age of the patients was 57.81 ± 7.57 years, 66.1 % were male and 33.9 % were female. 44 (71.0%) patients were administered antegrade cardioplegia, whereas 18 (29.0%) patients were administered antegrade plus retrograde cardioplegia. Mean LVEF increased significantly from 37.97 ± 1.38% before surgery to 51.87 ± 3.54% after surgery (P ˂ 0.05). Post-operative low cardiac output syndrome occurred in 37 (59.7 %) of patients, pulmonary complications in 15 (24.2%), neurological complications in 10 (16.1%), sternal wound infection in 9 (14.5%), atrial fibrillation in 5 (8.1%) and acute kidney injury in 5 (8.1 %) of patients. In-hospital mortality was 16.1% (10 patients).

Conclusion: Based on the findings, CABG in patients with reduced preoperative LVEF improves the postoperative LVEF and NYHA functional class.

Introduction: Unplanned, delayed readmissions (>30 ds) following oncologic surgeries can increase mortality and care costs and affect hospital quality indices. However, there is a dearth of literature on rectal cancer surgery. Hence, we aimed to assess the risk factors associated with delayed readmissions following rectal cancer surgery to improve targeted interventions, patient outcomes, and quality indices.

Aim: To provide a theoretical basis for the study of the pathogenesis of residual dizziness (RD) from the perspective of imaging.

Materials And Methods: The general clinical data of the RD group and healthy control (HC) group were statistically analysed by two independent sample t tests, rank sum tests or chi-square tests. The imaging data of the two groups of people were preprocessed and statistically analysed by using the data processing and analysis for brain imaging (DPABI) software package.

Importance: Endocrine treatments, such as Tamoxifen (TAM) and/or Aromatase inhibitors (AI), are the adjuvant therapy of choice for hormone-receptor positive breast cancer. These agents are associated with menopausal symptoms, adversely affecting drug compliance. Topical estrogen (TE) has been proposed for symptom management, given its' local application and presumed reduced bioavailability, however its oncological safety remains uncertain.

Aggressive angiomyxoma of the vagina: A case report and literature review.

Medicine (Baltimore)

January 2025

Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Hematology and Oncology, Jeonbuk National University Hospital, Jeonbuk National University Medical School, Jeonju, Republic of Korea.

Rationale: Aggressive angiomyxoma (AAM) is an exceptionally rare mesenchymal tumor that predominantly manifests in the female genital organs during the reproductive age. Its rarity alone makes it a fascinating subject for study. The diagnosis of AAM necessitates differentiation from other benign or mesenchymal tumors and can be confirmed through immunohistochemistry (IHC) staining.

Background: This study investigates the therapeutic efficacy of dynamic neuromuscular stabilization (DNS) technology paired with Kinesio Taping in patients with persistent nonspecific low back pain, as well as the effect on neuromuscular function and pain self-efficacy.

Methods: A randomized controlled clinical study was conducted to collect clinical data on DNS combined with KT for the treatment of chronic nonspecific low back pain from November 2023 to April 2024. The inclusion criteria were patients with chronic nonspecific lower back pain, aged between 18 and 30 years old, and without serious underlying medical conditions, such as cardiac disease, hypertension, and diabetes.
