Journey through the history of Journal of Experimental Biology: a timeline.

In the cut-throat industry of academic publishing, some journals barely survive a decade, let alone a century, but in October 2023, Journal of Experimental Biology is celebrating 100 years at the forefront of comparative physiology, neuroethology and biomechanics. In this Commentary article and the accompanying poster, I explore the journal's history from its inception, through the guidance of nine Editors-in-Chief, to achieving its aims of championing the comparative approach, disseminating and promoting high-quality research and supporting our community of researchers. I discuss technological developments in publishing and classic articles that have cemented the journal in its position at the forefront of comparative physiology.

Purpose: Orvacabtagene autoleucel (orva-cel; JCARH125), a CAR T-cell therapy targeting B-cell maturation antigen (BCMA), was evaluated in relapsed/refractory multiple myeloma (RRMM) patients in the EVOLVE phase 1/2 study (NCT03430011). We applied a modified piecewise model to characterize orva-cel transgene kinetics and assessed the impact of various covariates on its pharmacokinetics (PK).

Importance: Rotator cuff tendinopathy represents the most prevalent cause of shoulder pain, the third most common musculoskeletal disorder after low back pain and knee pain.

Objective: The objective of this study was to determine the effectiveness of corticosteroid injection(s), alone or in combination with anesthetic injection or any other physical therapist interventions, compared to physical therapist interventions alone in adults with rotator cuff tendinopathy.

Purpose: Therapeutic efficacy of KRASG12C(OFF) inhibitors (KRASG12Ci) in KRASG12C-mutant non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) varies widely. The activation status of RAS signaling in tumors with KRASG12C mutation remains unclear, as its ability to cycle between the active GTP-bound and inactive GDP-bound states may influence downstream pathway activation and therapeutic responses. We hypothesized that the interaction between RAS and its downstream effector RAF in tumors may serve as indicators of RAS activity, rendering NSCLC tumors with a high degree of RAS engagement and downstream effects more responsive to KRASG12Ci compared to tumors with lower RAS---RAF interaction.

It mainly affects young individuals of African descent with sickle cell trait, and it is resistant to conventional therapies used for other renal cell carcinomas.
