Photocoupled permanganate (PM) is an effective way to enhance the oxidation efficiency of PM, however, the activation of PM by infrared has received little attention. This study aimed to investigate the ability of infrared light to activate PM. When coupled with infrared, the degradation rate of 4-chlorophenol (4-CP) is increased to 3.54 times of PM oxidation alone. The accelerated reaction was due to the formation of vibrationally excited PM by absorbing 3.1 kJ mol infrared energy, which also leads to the primary reactive intermediates Mn(V/IV) in the reaction system. The infrared coupled PM system also showed 1.14-2.34 times promotion effect on other organic pollutants. Furthermore, solar composed of 45% infrared, coupled PM system showed excellent degradation performance, where the degradation of 4-CP in 10 L of tap water and river water was 68 and 23 times faster than in ultrapure water, respectively. The faster-increased degradation rate in natural waters is mainly due to the abundant inorganic ions, which can stabilize the manganese species, and then has a positive effect on 4-CP degradation. In summary, this work develops a energy-efficient photoactivated PM technology that utilizes infrared and provides new insights into the design of novel sunlight-powered oxidation processes for water treatment.

The development of long-wavelength near-infrared II (NIR-II, 900-1700 nm) dyes is highly desirable but challenging. To achieve both red-shifted absorption/emission and superior imaging capabilities, a donor-acceptor-donor (D-A-D) xanthene core was strategically modified by extending π-conjugated double bonds and enhancing electron-donating properties. Two dyes named and were synthesized and exhibited notably red-shifted absorption/emission peaks at 942/1250 and 1098/1450 nm, respectively.

In the present study, 5-Hydroxy-2-(Oleoyloxymethyl) -4H-pyran-4-one (KMO 3), and their chelated with Cu(II) and Fe(III) ions were synthesized to explore their inhibitory activity against tyrosinase and cytotoxicity. To this end, the structures of the obtained compounds were confirmed by ATR/FT-IR, 13C and 1H-NMR, and UV-vis techniques. The results show that chelating fatty ester presents the bands at 1567m, 1511w cm-1 attributed to the coordinated carbonyl (Cu(II)←[O=C]2), and the bands at 1540m, 1519m cm-1 which were attributed to the coordinated carbonyl (Fe(III)←[O=C]3).

Deep brain stimulation technology enables the neural modulation with precise spatial control but requires permanent implantation of conduits. Here, we describe a photothermal wireless deep brain stimulation nanosystem capable of eliminating α-synuclein aggregates and restoring degenerated dopamine neurons in the substantia nigra to treat Parkinson's disease. This nanosystem (ATB NPs) consists of gold nanoshell, an antibody against the heat-sensitive transient receptor potential vanilloid family member 1 (TRPV1), and β-synuclein (β-syn) peptides with a near infrared-responsive linker.

Photothermal therapy is a promising strategy for treating tumors and bacterial infections by using light irradiation to locally heat tissues. Metalloisoporphyrinoid materials have been investigated for their use as singlet oxygen photosensitizers for photodynamic therapy but remain underexplored as photothermal agents. Recently, two metallophlorin and two metalloisocorrole materials were found to have strong near-infrared absorbance, with low photoluminescent quantum yields, suggesting high rates of nonradiative decay.

A key challenge in the art and archaeological field is the instrumental analysis of objects and materials while preserving their integrity. In this study, the world-renowned artwork Alexander Mosaic (The Issus Battle, collection of the National Archaeological Museum of Naples, IT), the most iconic representation of the face of the Macedonian king Alexander the Great coming from a Pompeii domus, was thoroughly analyzed with mobile and non-invasive methods, within a great project of restoration started in 2020. Representative areas of the Mosaic, overall consisting of ca.
