Currently, novel technologies are highly prerequisite as an outstanding approach in the field of photocatalytic water splitting (PWS). Previous research has shown that copolymerization technology could improve the photocatalytic performance of pristine carbon nitride (CN) more efficiently. As this technology further allows the charge carrier recombination constraints, due to novel monomer-incorporated highly abundant surface-active sites of metals in polymeric carbon nitride-based heterojunction. However, in present study, a novel previously unexplored thiophenedicarboxaldehyde (TAL) conjugated, strontium-titanium (SrTiO) induced and CN based heterojunction, i.e., SrTiO/CN-TAL, was prepared for solar-driven hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). This heterojunction effectively enables the proficient isolation of photoinduced charge carriers and enhanced the charge transport over the surface junction, by enhancing the optical absorption range and average lifetime of photogenerated charges. The incorporation of TAL within the structure of CN via copolymerization highly increases the photocatalytic activity, as well as maintaining its photostability performance. The SrTiO concentration and the proportion of TAL among CN can be precisely controlled to provide the optimal photocatalytic efficiency with a maximum HER of 285.9 µmol/h under visible light (λ = 420 nm). Based on these results, our optical analysis shows that coupling of SrTiO and TAL monomer in the structure of CN considerably reduce the band gap of superior sample from (3.42 to 2.66 eV), thereby, signifying the outstanding photocatalytic performance of SrTiO/CN-TAL. Thus, this study provide a new guideline in order to develop the multidimensional photocatalysts with proper functioning for sustainable energy conversion and production.

Synergy of Copper Doping and Carbon Defect Engineering in Promoting C-C Coupling for Enhanced CO Photoreduction to Ethanol Activity.

Photocatalytic conversion of carbon dioxide (CO) to fuel provides an ideal pathway to achieving carbon neutrality. One significant hindrance in achieving the reduction of CO to higher energy density multicarbon products (C) was the difficulty in coupling C-C bonds efficiently. Copper (Cu) is considered the most suitable metal catalyst for C-C coupling to form C products in the CO reduction reaction (CORR), but it encounters challenges such as low product selectivity and slow catalytic efficiency.

December 2024

Key Laboratory of Biorheological Science and Technology, Ministry of Education, College of Bioengineering, Chongqing University, No. 174, Shapingba Main Street, Chongqing 400030, China.

In this study, we have proposed an electrochemiluminescence (ECL) signal amplification system which is based on two-dimensional (2D) flower-like CdS@Co/Mo-MOF composites as a co-reaction accelerator of the g-CN/SO system for ultrasensitive detection of chlorpromazine hydrochloride (CPH). Specifically, the 2D flower-like Co/Mo-MOF with mesoporous alleviated the aggregation of CdS NPs while simultaneously fostering reactant-active site contact and improving the reactant-product transport rate. This allowed the material to act as a novel co-reaction accelerator, speeding up the transformation of the SO into SO and enhancing the cathodic ECL emission of g-CN.

Valorization of Selected Biomass-Derived Molecules on Leaves-Biotemplated TiO-g-CN Photocatalysts.

Departamento de Química Orgánica, Instituto Químico para la Energía y el Medioambiente (IQUEMA), Universidad de Córdoba, E-14071 Córdoba, Spain.

Biotemplating technique allows the synthesis of catalysts, recreating the sophisticated structure of nature templates. In this work, some biotemplated TiO semiconductors were synthesized using leaves as templates. Then, g-CN was coupled to materials to later incorporate Pt on the surface or as dopant in the structure to evaluate the efficiency of the solids in two photocatalytic applications to valorize biomass: hydrogen production through glycerol photoreforming, and photoacetalization of cinnamaldehyde with 1,2-propanediol.

Glutathione (GSH) is a bioactive tripeptide with important physiological functions in animals, plants, and microorganisms. GSH participates in various biochemical reactions in vivo and is known for its antioxidant, anti-allergy, and detoxification properties. This study introduces an innovative photoelectrochemical (PEC) method for GSH detection, leveraging a fluorine-doped tin oxide (FTO) electrode enhanced by TiO nanoflowers and graphitic carbon nitride quantum dots (g-CNQDs).

The development of durable and highly efficient visible-light-driven photocatalysts is essential for the photocatalytic ozonation process towards degrading organic pollutants. This study presents CN-MA, a novel photocatalyst synthesized by grafting carbon nitride (CN) with single-atom Mn and 2-hydroxy-4,6-dimethylpyrimidine (HDMP) via one-step thermal polymerization. Experimental characterization and theoretical calculation results reveal that incorporating single-atom Mn and HDMP into CN alters the charge density distribution on the heptazine rings.
