The present study was conducted to develop new novel 2,4-thiazolidinedione derivatives (3h-3j) as peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-γ (PPAR-γ) modulators for antidiabetic activity. The objective was to overcome the adverse effects of existing thiazolidinediones while maintaining their pharmacological benefits. The synthesized compounds were elucidated based on FT-IR, H-NMR, C-NMR, and MS techniques. Molecular docking was utilized to investigate the interaction binding modes, binding free energy, and amino acids engaged in the compounds' interactions with the target protein. Subsequently, molecular dynamics modelling was used to assess the stability of the top-docked complexes and an assay was utilized to assess the cytotoxicity of the compounds to C2C12 myoblasts. Compounds 3h-3j exhibited PPAR-γ modulatory activity and demonstrated significant hypoglycaemic effects when compared to the reference drug pioglitazone. The new compounds were evaluated for their blood glucose-lowering potential by using a dexamethasone-induced diabetic rat model. All the compounds showed a hypoglycaemic effect of 108.04 ± 4.39, 112.55 ± 6.10, and 117.48 ± 43.93, respectively, along with pioglitazone (153.93 ± 4.61) compared to the diabetic control. Additionally, all the compounds significantly reduced AST and ALT levels and did not cause liver damage.

A series of Dehydroabietylamine (DHAA) C-ring Schiff derivatives, L3-L20, were synthesized and their in vitro cytotoxic activity against the human tumor cell lines cervix HeLa, breast MCF-7, lung A549, liver HepG2, and the nonmalignant cell line umbilical vein HUVEC was investigated. Most of the compounds showed varying degrees of anticancer activity against HeLa cell lines while demonstrating lower toxicity to normal HUVEC cells compared to DHAA and doxorubicin (DOX), especially compound L19, which not only enhanced the anticancer activity of DHAA, but also significantly reduced the toxicity to normal cells, achieving a selectivity index (SI) 118 times higher than that of DHAA and 245 times higher than that of DOX. In addition, compound L19 induced apoptosis in HeLa cells in a dose-dependent manner and arrested the cell cycle in S phase.

Background: Sodium-glucose cotransporter-2(SGLT-2) inhibitors are a newer class of antidiabetic drugs with the increased risk of euglycemic diabetic ketoacidosis(EuDKA). Encephalopathy is a rare but life-threatening event of EuDKA. Due to paradoxically normal or slightly elevated serum glucose levels, it's easy to be mimicked by cerebral infarction, structural brain damage, thus leading to delayed diagnosis and causing seriously irreversible brain injury.

Roxarsone (V) (Rox(V)) is an organoarsenical compound that poses significant risks to aquatic ecosystems and various diseases. Reducing trivalent 3-amino-4-hydroxyphenylarsonic acid (HAPA(III)) offers a competitive advantage; however, it leads to localized arsenic contamination, which can disrupt the soil microbiome and impede plant growth. Three genes, BsntrA, arsC2, and BsexpA, encoding nitroreductase, arsenate reductase, and MFS transporter, respectively, were identified in the Rox(V)-resistant strain Brevundimonas sp.

Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of home-use desensitizing agents over an 8-week period by comparing them using different measurement methods.
Methods: A randomized, controlled clinical trial was conducted with 180 individuals aged between 18 and 70 who clinically diagnosed dentin hypersensitivity (DH) in two or more non-adjacent teeth. Subjects who met the inclusion criteria (n = 164) were randomly allocated into five test groups-using Casein phosphopeptide-amorphous calcium phosphate (CPP-ACP), Arginine, Novamin, Propolis, and Potassium nitrate-and a control group using standard fluoride toothpaste.

Zinc is an essential metal to living organisms, including corals and their symbiotic microalgae (Symbiodiniaceae). Both Zn(II) deprivation and overload are capable of leading to dysfunctional metabolism, coral bleaching, and even organism death. The present work investigated the effects of chemically defined Zn species (free Zn, ZnO nanoparticles, and the complexes Zn-histidinate and Zn-EDTA) over the growth of the dinoflagellates Symbiodinium microadriaticum, Breviolum minutum, and Effrenium voratum, and on the trypsin-like proteolytic activity of the hydrocoral Millepora alcicornis.
