Unlabelled: Nasal mucociliary clearance (NMC) plays an important role in removal of inhaled particles. The aim of this study was to assess the normal nasal mucociliary clearance time in Indian adult population in age group 18-60 years. A cross sectional, descriptive, observational study was performed. Two hundred participants in the age group 18-60 years were included in this study. Saccharin transit test was performed in these subjects. Saccharin particle was placed 0.5 cm away from the inferior turbinate from its anterior part. The participants were asked to inform the appearance of sweet taste. Duration between placement of particle and the appearance of taste was noted in minutes. Mean saccharin transit time was 9.44?2.73 minutes. There was no statistically significant difference in saccharin transit time between males & females. Nasal mucociliary clearance time between < 40 years & ≥40 years was compared and there was no significant difference between the 2 groups. The normal mucociliary clearance value in healthy adult Indian population-based on saccharin transit time is 9.44 ± 2.73 min. The earliest change in respiratory defense mechanism is change in nasal mucociliary clearance time and saccharin test is a simple, easy test to detect this.

Primary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD, OMIM 244400) is a rare genetic disorder that affects motile cilia and is characterised by impaired mucociliary clearance of the airway epithelium, which results in chronic upper and lower airway infections. While short-read next-generation sequencing technology has been used for the genetic testing of PCD, its effectiveness is limited in identifying variants in the gene because of the nearly identical pseudogene As we confirmed that the gene was not expressed in airway cells, we obtained nasal mucosa biopsy specimens for total RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) with library enrichment using exome oligos. Among the 34 nasal samples from patients suspected of having PCD, three aberrant splicing patterns in were identified in two samples.

Alprazolam (Alp), a triazolobenzodiazepine, is widely prescribed for the treatment of sleep disorders, anxiety, and panic disorder. While oral administration remains the standard route, its slow onset of action has prompted interest in intranasal delivery as an alternative, offers the potential for direct drug delivery to the brain. This study aims to develop a fast-acting intranasal formulation of Alp (Alp-nd).

Intranasal drug administration offers a promising strategy for delivering combination antiretroviral therapy (cART) directly to the central nervous system to treat NeuroAIDS, leveraging the nose-to-brain route to bypass the blood-brain barrier. However, challenges such as enzymatic degradation in the nasal mucosa, low permeability, and mucociliary clearance within the nasal cavity must first be addressed to make this route feasible. To overcome these barriers, this study developed solid lipid nanoparticles (SLNs) with varying PEGylation levels (0 %, 5 %, 10 %, and 15 % w/w of PEGylated lipid), co-encapsulated with Elvitegravir (EVG) and Atazanavir (ATZ) as an integrase and protease inhibitor, respectively.

Background: Allergic rhinitis (AR) and acute non-allergic rhinosinusitis (ARS) often present with similar symptoms. While these are generally differentiated by history and occasionally by secretion cell counts, there are few data temporally comparing these conditions.

Methods: A prospective, observational study was conducted to assess nasal mucus properties, nasal obstruction, nasal secretion cells, and health related QOL during the acute phase (Day 5) and during a later phase of illness (Day 14/28).

The aim of this study was to develop a thermosensitive mucoadhesive (MA) in situ nasal gel for sumatriptan. A 3D response surface methodology (Design of Expert version 11) was employed to formulate nine different formulations. The Pluronic F-127 concentration (X1) and chitosan concentration (X2) were selected as independent factors.
