An adult Crested Ibis (Nipponia nippon) was found moribund in the Qinling area of China. Postmortem examination and histopathological analysis revealed lung inflammation and multi-organ hemorrhage. Bacterial isolation and whole-genome sequencing confirmed Edwardsiella tarda infection.

The liver-expressed antimicrobial peptide 2 (LEAP2) is gaining recognition for its immune regulatory functions beyond direct antimicrobial activity. In this study, we investigated the role of mudskipper (Boleophthalmus pectinirostris) LEAP2 (BpLEAP2) in enhancing the survival, gut health, and immune resilience against Edwardsiella tarda infection. Pre-oral delivery of BpLEAP2 significantly improved survival rates and mitigated infection-induced damage to the gut, as evidenced by preserved villus length and goblet cell count.

Seaweed residue hydrolysate (SRH), produced by the acid hydrolysis of seaweed processing residues, is rich in bioactive compounds. The development and utilization of SRH as an aquatic immune enhancer not only achieves high-value utilization of waste but also promotes green and healthy aquaculture. In this study, northern snakehead (Channa argus) juveniles fed a compound feed supplemented with SRH (treatment group) exhibited a significant enhancement in intestinal microbial diversity and the proliferation of beneficial bacteria after eight weeks.

Interleukin-12 (IL-12) regulates the differentiation of CD4 T lymphocytes into Th1 cells by binding to its receptor, thereby promoting cellular immunity. This study characterized IL-12 and its receptor β2 (IL-12Rβ2) in flounder (Paralichthys olivaceus) and investigated their interaction, effects on T cell proliferation and differentiation, and the adjuvant effects of IL-12. The recombinant IL-12 was successfully expressed, and the IL-12Rβ2 antibody was confirmed to specifically recognize IL-12Rβ2.

Butyrate is one of the most abundant short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), which are important metabolites of dietary fiber by fermentation of gut commensals, and has been shown to be vital in maintaining host health. The present study mainly investigated how sodium butyrate (NaB) supplementation in the diet with high proportion of soybean meal (SBM) affected turbot. Four experimental diets were formulated: (1) fish meal (FM) based diet (control group), (2) SBM protein replacing 45% FM protein in the diet (high SBM group), (3) 0.
